Ismahaan Posted May 19, 2009 A new Somali flag is being proposed but by who and why? Is there a need for a new flag? I disapproves this flag because our flag has been a prominent icon in our national history. It is the symbol of our country's heritage;it represents freedom and the unity of Somali people (the five Somali regions which had been divided by the colonial powers). The designer of the Somali national flag Mr. Mohammed Awale Liban ( May Allah bless his soul) said the blue color stands the United Nations who help us to reach our dream of independence; white means peace and prosperity; the star is the five regions of Somali."United we stand and divided we fall”. Well, if we want to preserve our heritage for the next generation, we need to unite. Somali Anthem Somalia wake up, wake up and lean on each other support you country Support them forever. SOMALI LYRICS CHORUS: Somaliyaay toosoo Toosoo isku tiirsada ee Hadba kiina taag daranee Taageera waligiinee. Ummadyahay mar kale toosoo Calankiinna wada tiirshoo, Danta guud ku taagsada oo Isu wada tanaasula eey. CHORUS Tawaabkoo qudhaa bixiyoo Gobannimada taam ka dhigee, Rabbi toobad weyddiistoo Talo saarta Weynaha eey. CHORUS Qabiilkaad ku tookhdaan baa Qawmiyaddaada kaa tira oo, Tayo li'ida qoysqoyskaa Idin bada tabaalaha eey. CHORUS Inuu Naar ku taro mooyee Dagaal ehel ma taabaggalee, Shacabkaa in loo tudho oo La tabantaabsho kaa mudaneey! CHORUS Curaddadaada taargo'ayaa Tiiraanyo qaran weeyee, Walaalkiis kan tooganayow Adays jaray tagoogaha eey. CHORUS Quruun teeda hanan weydaa Tiqo kuma leh dunideenee, Adduunyada ka tamin qaadtoo Assaagiina tiigsada eey.

Rose Posted May 19, 2009 hey stop complaining you still have the star and the blue background. dont like the colour co-ordination but really like the idea of incorporating the basmallah to the star and blue background. shows we are a nation of muslims innit
Jacaylbaro Posted May 19, 2009 The blue and the white star is for Somalia ,, the black color is for Alshabab and the bismillah is for Hizbul Islam ,,,, Now you have everyone there ,,,

Ilahay Wadanka Hanoo soo celiyo, Amiin dhaha, markaa flag aan kafakarno laba dhaha...
-Lily- Posted May 20, 2009 I agree, religious text is a bad idea. Imagine if you wanted to demonstrate and burn your flag?
Salma Posted May 20, 2009 To add more, sometimes when any muslim nation with a flag of islamic texts wants to celebrate, they start dancing and shaking while carrying the flag with ALlah's name on it while shaking and dancing,,, not good at all. I don't understand why to change this flag,,, why don't they change their attitude & behavior instead??
Diaspora_Dude Posted May 20, 2009 Black portion conveys The Dark Period That State of Somalia is experiencing now. The red portion conveys the blood shed & atrocities that Somali's are committing to at each other.
