Jacaylbaro Posted September 30, 2007 Ex-ILO East Africa Regional Office Director, Ali Ibrahim , has been appointed a minister in his home country Somaliland, it has been learnt. Ali Ibrahim who becomes the minister for Planning and Coordination was in-charge of the ILO East Africa Regional Office based in Dar salaam and it was during his tenure in the office that the UN agency built a five-storey permanent building. The agency in the region comprises the countries of Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Tanzania. As special appreciation to his extraordinary service in the UN Agency, the Dar es Salaam-based ILO Conference Hall has been named after him in a colourful ceremony that was held on Thursday. The function was attended by some 13 ILO Africa Regional Directors and other delegates from the UN Agency`s headquarters. The event was preceded by the first ever International Labour Organization (ILO) Regional Directors` meeting, the first of its kind to be held in Tanzania. The five day meeting started last Monday and is scheduled to end today. Speaking to this paper in an exclusive interview, the ILO former Director who is accompanied by his wife said he was optimistic that through concerted efforts and smart partnership a lot could be achieved in development and in the avenues of modernisation. The meeting of the ILO Africa Regional Directors is being held in camera at the organization?s headquarters.
