Mogadishu streets locked as Somali custodial corps marks 49th anniversary

The main streets in Mogadishu have been locked down on Saturday for the commemoration of the 49th anniversary of the establishment of Somali custodial corps.

A well-organized ceremony which took place in an army base was attended by Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire, the chief of custodial corps, Bashiir Mohamed Jama’a and other officials from security agencies.

During the event, the Prime Minister inspected a guard of honour mounted by the forces.

After the guard of honour, Mr. Kheire visited newly constructed premises for the custodial corps.

The prime minister commended the forces for their achievements after his tour to the construction.

For his part, the new chief of custodial corps extended congratulatory message to the forces.

“I congratulate the commissioners, deputy commissioners and all the custodial corps on the 49th anniversary of the establishment of the forces,” said the chief.

The prison corps who had been working through difficulties since the government of late Mohamed Siyyad Barre who was toppled early 1990s have taken step forward and marked remarkable achievements.
