Deeq A. Posted February 21, 2019 Somaliland: President Muse Bihi Visits Ethiopia Adis Ababa, (Qaran news)-The Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, accompanied by several senior ministers, including the Foreign, Interior, Finance and Commerce, is currently visiting the Federal Republic of Ethiopia. This is President Bihi’s first visit to our neighbor and comes at the invitation of the Ethiopian government led by Dr. Abiy Ahmed. The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi met with the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed to discuss areas of mutual interest, including bilateral co-operation on security, economic development and social affairs. The two sides, Somaliland and Ethiopia, also discussed the future developments of the talks between Somaliland and the federal government in Somalia. According to the communique issued by the Somaliland government, it was agreed all future talks be held within the international arena. In a bizarre sidebar, the head of the federal government in Somalia, Mohamed Abdillahi Farmajo who has expected to meet with President Muse Bihi, abandoned the meeting and headed for Mogadishu after his trip to Djibouti. Upon arrival in Mogadishu, a press release was issued stating that “President Muse Bihi agreed to work with the federal entity in Mogadishu”. The press release issued in Mogadishu has been widely ridiculed as a blatant miss-interpretation of the communique issued by the Federal Governement of Ethiopia, which stressed the “need for co-operation for all the countries in the Horn of Africa” All in all, the visit has been a success on Somaliland’s part and has once again clearly highlighted the strong ties between the two countries.
