Somali, AU troops launch operation in Bardere following explosion

The Somali government troops and AMISOM forces began conducting large-scale operations in Bardera town in Gedo region following a deadly car bomb explosion.

The joint operation which started Saturday continued till Sunday morning. It was carried out in several neighborhoods in the city and with reports of arrests.

Ismail Abdillahi, the governor of Bardere district, who spoke to Radio Shabelle by phone said the operation was meant to avert Al-Shabaab attacks.

At least 10 people were killed and several wounded on Saturday after a bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into Ethiopian military base in the town.
