Al-Shabaab attacks AU military base in central Somalia

Al-Shabaab fighters have launched an attack against a military base belonged to African Union troops outside Jalalaqsi town in central Somalia on Tuesday.

The AU base came under assault from different directions by armed militants who engaged in a heavy gun battle with the soldiers stationed there, according to the local residents.

In a statement on its affiliated media outlets, Al-Shabaab claimed it inflicted losses on the African Union troops, but, the number has not yet been verified.

The base is run by Djibouti soldiers serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM] which is helping Somali government in the fight against Al Shabaab.
