SayidSomal Posted December 2, 2008 The conflict-wracked Somali capital of Mogadishu has an ambulance service for the first time in nearly two decades. Five ambulances with a team of nurses will answer calls from patients to a new 24-hour emergency 777 helpline. source

Gheelle.T Posted December 2, 2008 Good that people are getting some needed services. As for old emergency number, for Xamar it was 888 aka otototo. I don't know if other towns have any similar number or not.

Kool_Kat Posted December 2, 2008 Mansha'allah...Allah usiyaadiyo... Originally posted by Sayid*Somal: Does anybody remember the old emergency number??? People used to refer to emergency vehicles as 'Otto Otto'...Otto being the number eight in Italian, and since all number were five digits in Muqdisho, I guess it is fair to assume the emergency number was 88888 (or could be just the three digits as Gheele mentioned above)...I vaguely recall a blue car (built like the PT Cruiser) with sirens, not sure what it was used for... Ashkiro Posted December 2, 2008 This news makes me sad and happy at the same time. Sad because such basic services are considered a milestone, and happy that people have these services now. I always love hearing stories from back home back in the day. After seeing convo over the old emergency number I would like to start a topic and hope ppl don't mind in sharing stories, any interesting bits and pieces of life back than, what was Xamar like etc. The Good Memories of Xamar Cadeey.
