Posted January 20, 2019 Virtually all pastureland has disappeared and most water sources have dried up in Somalia’s southern region of Gedo, increasing the likelihood of malnutrition and disease. Hundreds of families fled their villages due to the crisis and migrated to nearby areas in search of water and food, according to the local authorities. Gedo has a population of 375,280, according to the United Nations World Health Organization [WHO] figures. Reports from the region indicate that the little water available was contaminated, exposing an already weakened population to many water-borne diseases.
