Puntland President terminates tax exemptions on public and private organizations

Puntland president, Said Abdullahi Dani has directed his finance minister to lift tax exemptions for a government department and non-governmental organizations.

In a statement, President Dani ordered the termination of tax reduction and exemption that had been implemented by the former administration of Puntland led by Abdiweli Ali Gaas.

According to the statement the order took effect on 12th January 2019.

“I want to inform the government institutions, non-governmental organizations as well as the private business entities through the ministry of finance that no tax exemptions or reductions will be applicable from 12th January 2019,” President Dani said in the new directive.

This is the second decree issued by the new president of Puntland within a week since his election as president on 8th January.

The new president has issued executive order to freeze the state’s account to avert embezzlement during the transition period of power one day after his election.

The directive issued shortly after his swearing ordered all private and public banks to immediately halt withdrawals from the state accounts to curb misappropriation during transitional power period.
