Ibtisam Posted January 7, 2009 Demonstrators demanding an end to Israeli airstrikes on Gaza hurled their shoes at the gates of Downing Street yesterday during a wave of global protests. Riot police were also pelted with missiles and fireworks as about 5,000 pro-Palestinians descended on the Israeli Embassy in London in the evening. Earlier in the day, around 12,000 people marched through the centre of the capital, including singer Annie Lennox, human rights campaigner Bianca Jagger and former mayor Ken Livingstone. The London Demos At the embassy: Elsewhere in Britain, 2,000 demonstrators took to the streets in Manchester and 500 braved the cold in Edinburgh. Paris held the world’s biggest protest, with 25,000 people showing up to condemn the Israeli offensive, which has killed at least 436 Palestinians since December 27th. Ibtisam Posted January 7, 2009 ^^^It is has become symbolic for protest and for showing disgust, disrespect and all the other notions associated with it, I think it was mainly the Arabs and Somalis.

Paragon Posted January 7, 2009 Actually I have a few pairs to dispose of, and I am a shoe-sharp-shooter . Good to see people coming out for justice. Insha-Allah will come to the next one. I got the protest emails from my socialist friends already. They know how to put up a protest - I'll be red, again!

Valenteenah. Posted January 7, 2009 Don't you think all those shoes in the above image are really quite ugly? I mean, c'mon, if you are going to throw shoes, make sure they should be seen in public. Having said that, I can bring along a pair of my sister's primark dollies.

Ibtisam Posted January 8, 2009 ^^^ North, why do you think so how by freezing your feet off or get cuts is going to "HElp" you feel Palestines pain  It is a symbolic action  P.s. There is a poll on the Metro website asking the following question "Should Gordon Brown unambiguously condemn Israel for the asault on Gaza?" The yes vote is currently only 21% whilst the no vote is 79%. Please click here and vote yes and forward to your contacts Some may ask what good this will achieve but we know what impact PR can have on general public opinion and the Metro will publish results in tomorrow's paper. A significant yes vote can help influence peoples opinions in the right direction i.e. in our case to the "yes" vote.
Paragon Posted January 8, 2009 ^Will try to be there, Insha-Allah. Was reading about yesterday's pro-Palestine vs pro-Israel clash. Were you there?
BOB Posted January 9, 2009 I've always wanted to throw my shoes at some one just to see if its as fun as women make it seem...because in some cases you ask this abaayo a normal question like...Abaayo what time is it and...BOOM...kab duuleysaa wajiga kaaga dhaceysa... Ibtisam...Did you enjoy unleashing the hooligan in you? Did you actually hit the cops or you were so scared you delibarately missed from less than 2 yards... Peace, Love & Unity.
