Type in certain dirty words and its says:

Oops! Your search inquiry has a Haram level of 3 out of 3! I would like to advice you to change your search terms and try again.

looooooooooooooooooo ooooooool.

Surely this kind of things damages free speech.

a nice but impractical idea.

they are making it sound as if people 'accidentally' come across xaram things online ...you have to actively seek it out most of the time.

I see a few problems with this service:

1- The press release only talks about blocking adult content considering this is a voluntary opt-in system ... why not circumvent the whole thing and NOT go to adult sites ... otherwise there are complete parental protection softwares that go further and do a much better job.

2- They are assuming the only avenue to accessing non-halal content is through a search engine

3- Their definition of non-halal content is too narrow e.g. do they block gambling sites or are they just concerned with porn

honorable idea but highly impractical

The idea is super good but still some vagueness here and there and there is still alot of work to be done. First hurdle to overcome is for the system to explain if something for example is lets say haram, then on what bases is it haram and why is it haram and so on with Quranic & hadith references instead of coming up with this vague statement like "Your search inquiry has a Haram level of 3 out of 3! I would like to advise you to change your search terms and try again" who is he? :D

Anyway, it is brilliant idea and the muslim organisations as well as wealthy individuals are encouraged to support this project and take it to a higher level with sophisticated search engines then muslims especially those practicing muslims who want surf the net at the same time trying hard to avoid these unsuitable images and websites will appreciate it and use it daily.

Ibtisam

^^^Why what did you search for??

It is a silly idea, if you don't care about hala and haram you won't use this service and if you do care, you can use normal google and search for whatever normal thing you are looking for.

GG, I rather have other Muslims coming up with the idea and 'profiting' from it, than others to do it. Nothing better than helping people and making a nice little profit at it too. Just my opinion.

Walaahi this is silly ,,, :D:D:D

Only the porno-related words are seen as Haram. I checked it with "kiss", "dating", "making love", "music" and everything else which they say it is Halal ............... :D

I'd rather Muslims came up with something innovative, not blatantly copy others. Muslims used to be in the vanguard of innovation, whatever happened to that?

And by the way, I don't like the idea of people trying to profit from Islam. Islam is a way of life and the path to Jannah and God, one should not try to use this to make a few £££*. There is nothing new about iamhalal, and it certainly wasn't helping me or the majority in this thread - on the contrary; in most of us it revealed the small (naughty) child in us (typing in inappropriate words).

* this isn't to say that one cannot design and sell abayas for example. Doing lawful things within Islam and using Islam to make a buck are two completely different things.
