Xaaji Xunjuf Posted October 31, 2018 Somalia ‘excluded’ from new Istanbul airport’s inauguration amid Khashoggi crisis 108Shares Hiiraan Online Wednesday October 31, 2018 MOGADISHU (HOL) – The Turkish government has inaugurated the gleaming world’s largest airport on Monday, a magnificent project which fulfills president Erdogan’s dream of making Turkey a global player. But Somalia has not been represented at the ceremony attended by most of Turkey’s major partners, sources told Hiiraan Online on Tuesday. The exclusion of Somalia from the symbolic event which featured leaders of more than 18 countries including Qatar, Sudan, Pakistan, Serbia, Uzbekistan on the front row seats is thought to be related to its recent public support to the Saudi kingdom over the case of a Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi who was murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul early last month. The murder of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and a critic of Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman by 15 Saudi agents in the consulate - sparked global outrage and pitched the world’s top oil exporter into crisis. However, Somalia’s foreign ministry issued a statement expressing “full solidarity” with Saudi Arabia against “all those who seek to undermine its role,” , a comment which angered both Turkey and Qatar, two major investors, in a move which also worried could strain relations Somalia had maintained with the two important allies. Turkey remains a major investor and partner for Somalia and channeled hundred millions of dollars into the post-war horn of Africa nation’s reconstruction efforts. The Turkish government has also built one of its largest embassies in the world in the Somali capital, reflecting the long-term strategic interests it has in Somalia which is recovering from decades of civil unrest. Speaking at the sprawling new airport, built on the shores of the black Sea, president Erdogan declared that Turkey has became the “most important transit location on the north-south, east-west axes, connecting 60 countries and $20 trillion economies.” “With this airport, we are furthering our country’s key role in the integration of global economies,” he was quoted as saying by The Associated Press. According to the Turkish media, by the end of the year, the massive airport will replace Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport, named after Turkey’s founder. According to analysts, Somalia stood to lose a lot by not being represented at this important Turkish event which also coincided with the 95th anniversary of Turkey’s establishment as a republic following its war of independence.. The Somali government has remained quiet on the subject ever since the statement was issued. Holac Posted October 31, 2018 After all that Turkey has done for Somalia and the Somali people, the two stooges in Mogadishu chose to antagonize the Turks for something as petty as getting a small handout from MBS so that they can buy more social media voices. Somalia is doomed.
Duufaan Posted October 31, 2018 Somali and turkey have good relations and continue to have, the same time Turkey and Saudi will have good working relations whatever ending of the murder case . I agree to the timing of Khayre visit to Saudi was not the right time but it has to do more to local politics and funding rather Turkey. There were some lower Somali officers who participated in the event, Sudan president was the highest international leader participated. Turkey needs Somalia, as Somalia needs the turkey. It is a strategic, historic and economic relationship beyond Farmaajo co. Somalia is not doomed, it is future is bright when the right people are in leadership. Peace Action Posted November 1, 2018 Secessionists are getting desperate. Turkey leadership is not vindictive and childish like the current Arab leaders. Their relationship with Somalia is solid and strategic and Turkey will continue to help Somalia.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted November 1, 2018 That's you what you think there are no permanent friends or foes in the political game the so called sultan of Anatolia serves only the Turkish strategic interest if he has to do he will bomb Kurds into stone age. The same way he playing pingpong politics with Vladimir putin back in 2014 and 2015 when he shut a Russian fighter jet. The so called sultan serves only his interest and that of neoottomanism. Do you know he invested allot of money in Addis Ababa . The Turks like the koonfurians only because they are selling national assets for pennies the airport the port. Everything has a price tag. Surely you would know this since your former leader Mr faroole of the pirate enclave complain about it and cumar nuur aka Mr chalaato was even cahoots with kikiyus selling the sea to the highest bidder. Queen of S Posted November 2, 2018 8 minutes ago, Oodweyne said: Spot on. Somalia was nothing but a charity case for Turkey. In fact, the whole rationale of Turkey building it's "strategical footprints" in Somalia after the mere human's charity in which they were first moved by it, was the idea of getting into Ethiopia's vast market. And that was the reason they thought to get in on the action with Somalia, so that their desire is to build the ports the Ethiopia need can be done from Somalia's sea-shores. However, now they have Sudan's ports, in conjunction with Qatar, who is also in the "port's game" of the region and in Sudan in particularly, then their need for Somalia's ports to service Ethiopia's hinterland's market will correspondingly diminish. But don't let that "deeper argument" disturb the politically illiterate folks in here of SOL who are essentially Villa Somalia's inept groupies around here. What makes me mad is that we let them build an embassy on our lands. Biggest mistake. In my opinion, Somalia shouldn't trust any country or have them as our allies. As proven from time to time, each time we "trust" or "help" a country we essentially always get backstabbed. The only people who care about Somalia are the natives and they are the only ones who will have its best interest. (except some)
Queen of S Posted November 2, 2018 24 minutes ago, Oodweyne said: I don't know about that. For building large embassies are really not that important. However allowing others to build things for you is good provided you know what interest they have in you and what is yours. But the tragic thing in here is that the political folks in Somalia are the sort of folks who don't do this sort of a "deeper calculation". And they will go with whoever gives them the "best bribes" they could get it. Hence, why they are with Qataris without knowing what Qataris will ever build in Somalia. And this is why they are not doing any hard calculation in-terms of how seriously Turkey is committed into their country, if for example Sudan "offers" a better deal for Turkey in-order for Turkey to get access to Ethiopia from Sudan. Or, for example, if there is a deal between Turkey and Eritrea in one of these days (it could happen, you know) whereby Turkey will get its easy direct route to Ethiopia from Eritrea's ports. These are the sort of the "constant calculation of a strategical kind" in which nations should do it. But I really don't see that sort of unemotional and a deeper strategising ever happening in Villa Somalia at all in any time soon. Building an embassy is a big deal. Embassies represent their home country and have certain legally defined responsibilities and powers. They are part of the government of the country they represent, hence as to why so many Somalis would defend Turkey. Turkey shouldn't be allowed to have that kind of influence Somalia and Somalis. As I said, we were only a charity case for them nothing less and nothing more. Yes, having people build for you are good, if their intentions are reasonable. I don't think we should've supported the qataraist, they never supported us nor are they important. Somalia should be as selfish as every country, we should only do things that work in our interest. We shouldn't get involved in these bullshit dramas that has no value to us. We should only think about the economy and how we can further build it. At the moment, Somalia is a low ranking country. But when we get back to our glory days we shall only join partnerships as long as we serve the upper hand. Otherwise, there is a chance of another backstabbing.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted November 3, 2018 The Turks are only after money and resources because they want to expand their sphere of influences. Economically politically. Because they are taking advantage because of the fragile lack of institutions lack of a functioning govt. They have a military base in xamar they are fighting the sacuudis and the imaaraatis geopoltically in the region using their ally qatar. Any one who thinks the Turks are doing this because of love for Somalis or koonfurians no such thing as free lunch.
