Deeq A. Posted October 27, 2018 MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)—Somalia has held a ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) contact group in the capital of Mogadishu. Somali PM Hassan Ali Khaire has officially opened the OIC summit to focus on the ways and means to promote durable peace and institutional stability in Somalia. He says the OIC meeting in Somalia is a symbol of country’s return to the community of nations as a proactive actor, seeking solutions to global challenges. “We have all ingredients for success, what we lack is a champion to change the narratives…. our brothers in the OIC can take the lead here, and challenge the world to begin to engage with the New Somalia under new terms”, Khaire said. The group in Somalia included – Egypt, Djibouti, Iran, Kuwait, Gabon, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Turkey, UAE, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Brunei and Yemen The OIC’s Twitter feed said the OIC and its Member States intensified their assistance to the authorities of Somalia to strengthen institutions and to combat the menace of the Al-Shabaab. “We have condemned the terrorist acts perpetrated by Al-Shabaab in Somalia”. Somalia as a founding State of the OIC has always occupied a high place on the OIC agenda and the OIC continues to actively contribute at various levels for achieving peace and stability in the war-ravaged nation.
