MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)—Heavy clash flared up on Saturday in the capital of Mogadishu, when Somali police soldiers clashed with military forces, leaving 3 people injured.

The skirmish erupted after police soldiers attempted to stop military forces loyal to Somali military commander, Gen. Shegow Ahmed Ali, a witness said.

He says the heavily armed military soldiers on board from south regions were on their way to the capital, but clashed with police soldiers at Seybiano area in the city’s Hodan district.

“Heavy exchanges of gun fire started after disagreement between police and military soldiers as the major roads in the capital were blocked for security reasons”, he said.

A woman was among those who were injured in the clash. The victims were rushed into hospital in the capital Mogadishu, he told Caasimada Online.

Mogadishu capital is on locked down as Somalia has held on Saturday a ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) contact group.

The OIC summit kicked off under tight security on Saturday, with roads closed and residents urged to remain indoors over fears of an attack on the capital by Al-Shabaab.
