MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)—The Deputy leader of an Islamic State and Iraq Levant -affiliated extremist group has been shot dead in Somali capital Mogadishu.

Mahad Moallim Mohamud was killed by suspected Al-Shabaab fighters in the Somali capital, after the group’s militants reportedly learned about his hideout.

Mo’alim was sanctioned by The United States in February as a ‘specially designated global terrorist’.

The US says he had been responsible for facilitating shipments of weapons and fighters across the Gulf of Aden from Yemen.

Mahad Moallim was reportedly an operational figure and aide to ISIL group’s leader Abdulkadir Mumin in north of Somalia.

The Al Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab group in Somalia has already executed many pro-ISIL commanders in for past years.

There was no immediate comment from ISIL group in Somalia over the claims.
