Posted October 24, 2018 MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)— Somalia’s breakaway Somaliland region has been accused of blocking the entry of crucial medical supplies to help dozens of people injured in deadly clan fighting. The medical aid is one of the latest humanitarian responses by the Somali government to help 120 others were injured in the fighting in Dumay area, in north of Somalia’s Sool region. Ocean Airline which was carrying large quantities of medicines and a variety of medical equipment returned back to Somali capital after Somaliland authorities allegedly blocked it to land at Las-Anod airport. The medical supplies were aimed to strengthen the capacity of Sool hospitals in providing healthcare to the dozens of injured civilians, according to sources, who asked to be anonymous. Somaliland is also accused of fueling the clash fighting the region. “It is unfortunate that other clan militias equipped and paid by Somaliland have sided with the two fighting clans”, said, Abdullahi Ali Hirsi, interior minister of Puntland. Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 and operates as an independent state but has not won international recognition.
