Somalia’s state leaders asked to recruit soldiers

MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)—The President of Galmudug state of Somalia has asked to recruit especial regional states’ soldiers in their territories, amid rising attacks by Al-Shabaab in the horn of Africa war-torn nation.

The President Ahmed Du’alle Gelle urged regional leaders to facilitate the recruitment program in Somali semi-autonomous regions.

Sunday’s announcement was made after fourth forum of the council of Inter-State Cooperation [CIC] kicked off in Garowe, capital of Puntalnd.

He said the new soldiers would fight against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group battling the weak-western backed government of Somalia.

It is unclear whether the Federal member States agreed latest request by Somalia’s Galmudug President.

Mr. Gelle Meanwhile, he The Mr. Gelle accused the central government of creating political tension in Galmudug State, saying that the Federal government had failed to manage security of Somalia.

Last month, Somalia’s state leaders accused central government of interfering regional issues and cut all working relationships with the Federal government, amid on-going political rifts.

The country’s regional leaders also chose to boycott a National Security Council meeting scheduled for Sept. 17 and 18 in Somali capital Mogadishu.

There was no immediate comment from the Federal government over the latest allegation.

The accusation comes after fourth forum of the council of Inter-State Cooperation [CIC] in kicked off on Sunday in Garowe, capital of Puntalnd.

The remarks come as Somali military announced to launch major joint military offensive against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in south and central Somalia.

The country has struggled with civil war for decades, and AMISOM has been active there since 2007.

However, UN says the decision by the five regional presidents could embolden Al Shabaab and negate the gains made by the African Union Mission in Somalia.
