MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)—Somalia’s regional leaders have convened to hold fourth forum of the council of Inter-State Cooperation [CIC] in Garowe, capital of Puntalnd.

The CIC conference is set to discuss on the interests of the regional states, current political deadlock, 2020 election, and security, said, Puntland President Abduweli Mohamed.

Mohamed says the CIC conference had brought together the leaders of Puntland, Galmudug, Southwest, and Jubbaland in Garowe town.

Earlier last month, the regional leaders announced to have cut all ties with the central government in a likely setback to efforts to pacify the Horn of Africa country as it emerges from two decades of conflict.

The leaders accused the Federal government of “interfering” regional issues and “failed” to manage security of the country, said in the memo.

The move by the regional leaders seems a potentially political setback in Somalia, amid on-going efforts to make peace in the war-revaged country.

However, UN says the decision by the five regional presidents could embolden Al Shabaab and negate the gains made by the African Union Mission in Somalia.
