Deeq A. Posted October 6, 2018 MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)–Somali Islamist group has seized a cache of weapons from armored personnel carriers bound for Kenyan police near border town. The assortment of weapons and ammunition were captured by heavily armed fighters loyal to Sheikh Ahmad Iman Ali, the leader of Shabaab’s branch in Kenya. Kenyan police says the Islamist group Al Shabaab had seized number of boxes of ammunition heading to other police forces stationed in Mandera town. The police said security and police forces are pursuing suspected Al-Shabaab militants who captured an assortment of weapons and ammunition. Kenyan police added a security operation is underway to pursue the militants who had crossed from Somalia to carry out attacks on the Kenyan soil. The security forces in Kenya have intensified patrols along the border with Somalia in the wake of terror attacks in the border region. Since the Kenyan soldiers crossed into Somalia in 2011, several attacks believed to have been carried out by Al-Shabab have occurred in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa in northern Kenya.
