Somalia: Kenyan jets hit Al-Shabaab camp

MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)–Kenyan fighter jets carried out an airstrike targeting Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group in south of Somalia.

The strike took place near El-Adde town in Somalia’s Gedo region, after Kenyan warplanes targeted group’s camp, killing at least 10 militants, including a senior commander.

Somali military says the strike killed at least ten Al Shabab militants, including a senior commender, whose name has not been released yet.

El-Adde is a town where Kenyan troops under the African Union mission in Somalia had a military base before being withdrawn when nearly 100 Kenyans were killed in deadly gun attack by Al Shabaab in 2016.

There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.

The rebels have since carried out a string of assaults to punish Kenya for its intervention.

Kenyan warplanes often carry out such airstrikes on areas believed to be Al Shabaab hideouts. Neither Kenya nor Al Shabaab have commented on the bombing in the south of Somalia.
