NAIROBI (Caasimada Online)–President Uhuru Kenyatta affirmed Kenya’s support for fighting against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group in Somalia.

Speaking during the 73rd United Nations General Assembly in New York, Uhuru said Kenya is committed to continue supporting Somalia in eradicating Al-Shabaab.

He said that Kenya has over the years supported peace and political stabilization of Somalia through hosting and facilitation of negotiations, contributing troops to AMISOM and providing technical support.

The Head of State said through regional and international support, remarkable progress has been made in achieving peace and security in Somalia.

In 2011, Nairobi sent its troops into Somalia to thwart deadly border cross attacks and kidnappings allegedly carried out by Al Qaeda inspired group Al Shabaab.

Kenya has soldiers serving under African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia to help the weak-western backed government battling against Al Shabaab.
