MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online) — The Islamist group Al Shabaab has denied to have lost 70 of its militants in latest airstrike carried out by Ethiopian warplanes in Somalia.

In a statement aired by Radio Andulus, an Al-Shabaab mouthpiece, said the none of the group’s fighters were killed or injured in the Somalia strike, calling the claims as ‘absurd one’.

“This a baseless claims made by Ethiopian military. We lost no fighter in Somalia airstrike”, the group said.

Last week, Ethiopian air force official, Brig. Gen. Yilma Merdassa said an airstrike killed 70 Al Shabaab militants in neighboring Somalia.

Merdassa says the airstrike was aimed to thwart an Al-Shabab attack on an Ethiopian troops with multinational African Union force.

He said two vehicles laden with bomb explosives were also destroyed in the strike.

“We achieved 100 percent of our plans against Al Shabaab group”, he said.

U.S. military claimed to have killed two Al Shabaab militants in drone strike in Mubarak town, some 37 miles west of Somali capital Mogadishu.
