Geel_jire Posted March 12, 2008 Cara that is exactly what i meant. only a statistician can tell you with a straight face that water kills.absolute rubbish backed up by 'facts'.... the problem is not with the stats.. but how it is used as proof to substantiate claims such as these....... when you can make the same stats say whatever you want. Blessed Posted March 12, 2008 ^You try too hard Lazy. Relax, re-read the text and try to comprehend without reading too much into it or taking it out of context. Then you can answer your own silly questions.
Cara. Posted March 12, 2008 Lazyzie, she's saying the statistic doesn't apply to them. Must you be so difficult?
LayZie G. Posted March 12, 2008 Blessed, why the anger? Did I touch a nerve? Cara, why doesn't the statistics apply to the muslim girls? The data on the muslim community might exceed these findings, believe u and me. Lets be real here ladies, our girls aren't innocent anymore, things aren't like the good old days. PS:Blessed, qof weyn aa tahay, when suaal lagu weydiiyo, answer it with some sharaf, will ya?
-Lily- Posted March 12, 2008 Layzie, it is fair to generalize that practising young Muslim women are not promiscuous and generally wait till after marriage for sex and as such greatly reduce their chance of getting STDs. No one is saying they are immune to it. Cara dhibley, put away your popcorn
Geel_jire Posted March 12, 2008 Another example The theory of Interstellar trade This paper extends interplanetary trade theory to an interstellar setting. it is chiefly concerned with the followig question: how should interest charges on goods in transit be computed when the goods travel at close to the speed of light ? This is a problem because the time taken in transit will appear less to an observer travelling with the goods than a stationary observer. A solution is delivered from economic theory, and two useless but true theorems are proved. and It should be noted that , while the subject of this paper is silly, the analysis actually does make sense. This paper, then is a serious analysis of a ridiculous subject, which is of course the opposite of what is usual in economics.
Cara. Posted March 12, 2008 Lily, who me? *wipes fingers on shirt*. LOL @ Geeljire. Here's another one. The Dangers of Bread 1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread eaters. 2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests. 3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever and influenza ravaged whole nations. 4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread. 5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than that in one month! 6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low occurrence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease and osteoporosis. 7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after only two days. 8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to "harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter and even cold cuts. 9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person. 10. Newborn babies can choke on bread. 11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute. 12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling.
Geel_jire Posted March 12, 2008 loool, First water, then bread.... where do you get this stuff. I hope they don't have a study about the harmful affects of breathing
Cara. Posted March 12, 2008 LOL. Well you know, more than 25% of people who have ever died were found to have inhaled air containing more than 78% nitrogen and only 20% oxygen. And they didn't even know it! Back to the interstellar travel article, this cracked me up: The remainder of this paper is, will be, or has been, depending on the reader's inertial frame, divided into three sections
Valenteenah. Posted March 12, 2008 It sounds very sensationalist. About HPV, apparently most ppl will contract this in some form at some point in their lives (also condoms don't provide much protection against it). Its all a matter of numbers really. The more partners one sleeps with, the more chance of catching something, whether harmful or harmless.
Ducaysane Posted March 12, 2008 Val posted: (also condoms don't provide much protection against it). How do you know that?
Valenteenah. Posted March 12, 2008 ^ Well, the virus can cause warts which can appear on any part of the genital area, therefore a condom will not necessarily protect somebody from catching it.
