Crystal_Clear Posted June 19, 2007 Fire swept through a furniture warehouse, collapsing the building’s roof and claiming the lives of nine firefighters in a disaster the mayor described Tuesday as “difficult to fathom or quantify.” “Nine brave, heroic, courageous firefighters of the city of Charleston have perished fighting fire in a most courageous and fearless manner, carrying out their duties,” Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley said at a morning news conference. “To all of their loved ones, our heart goes out to them.” ..am in tears...

Ariadne Posted June 19, 2007 that's very sad, but think of the hundreds of fire fighters that die years after they retire from complications in their line of work. Although a heroic profession; being a fire fighter is like agreeing to die very soon in your life to help other people. Seriuosly all of the fire they have encounters with is the equivalent of smoking 5 packs of ciggarettes a day and not by choice either.
