Four people killed in Al-Shabaab attack near Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online) – Four people have been killed and six others injured in ambush attack on army base in south of Somali capital Mogadishu.

The attack happened in Afgoye town, some 30km south of the capital after heavily armed Al Shabaab attacked on army base in the town.

Four people – 3 soldiers and a civilian man were killed in the attack, according a witness, who asked to be anonymous.

He says six other soldiers were also injured in the ambush attack.

Former State Minister at Presidentail Palace, Abdulkadir Mo’alim’s son, Omar Abdulkadir Mo’alim, a soldier was among those who were killed in the attack, according to sources.

In a statement aired by Radio Andulus, Al Shabaab mouthpeice, said the group’s also took away 5 AK-47s and destroyed military vehiclea.

“We carried ou an ambush attack in parts of Afgoye town, we killled soldiers and seized weapons”, the group said.

There was no immediate comment from Somali military officials over the claims.
