Deeq A. Posted August 29, 2018 MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online) – US military says it carried out drone strike against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group in Somalia, killing 3 militants. The air strike occurred approximately 40km southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu, U.S. Africa Command said in a statement. US conducted on August 27 an air strike in coordination with Somalia’s army forces. US military assesses that no civilians were killed in the airstrike against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group. The Trump administration approved expanded military operations against extremists in Somalia, including al-Shabaab, which is linked to al-Qaeda The U.S. has carried out 20 such strikes this year against the Somalia-based al-Shabab. The al-Qaida-linked group is the deadliest Islamic extremist organization in sub-Saharan Africa and it often targets Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu However, Al-Shabaab fights to topple Somalia’s western-backed central government and impose its a rule based on its own strict interpretation of Islam’s Sharia law.
