MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online) -Uganda forces with African Union peacekeeping mission known as “AMISOM” has handed over the country’s biggest football Stadium to Somali government.

The move is said to be as part of African Union forces’s transitional plan in Somalia.

The mission says its Ugandan forces finalized plans to hand over Mogadishu Stadium which has been under its control for the past 7 years.

The hand over function was attended by Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo.

President has thanked Ugandan forces in Somalia for the brotherly “sacrifice and patriotism”, while being part of fighting against Al Shabaab.

For his part, deputy AU envoy to Somalia, Simon Mulongo, said the handover of Mogadishu stadium is a major step in the process of AMISOM’s transitional plan.

The stadium was liberated from Al-Shabab on 6th September 2011 by Uganda’s Battle Group VII,VIII and Somalia National Army (SNA) during offensive operations that were aimed at liberating Mogadishu from the Al-Shabaab.
