Somalia: 7 Al-Shabaab militants killed in military operation

MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online) – Somali military forces carried out an operation against Al Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab in Burdhubo town

The forces killed at least 7 militants during the operation, a military officer, Jama’ Mohamed said.

He says the operation was conducted in the town, following a tip off.

Mohamed said two senior Al Shabaab commanders were among those, who were killed in the military operation.

He added the military forces would rump up its offensive against Al Qaeda inspired group of Al-Shabaab.

“We continue such operations untill we eradicate Al-Shabaab militants”, he said.

There waa no immediate comment from the group over the claims.

Al-Shabab has been waging an insurgency in Somalia for more than 10 years.

A 22,000-strong African Union force is in the country to help the government in fighting against the al-Qaeda-linked militants.
