I am just wondering? since it has no basis on the religious texts? where did we get it from??..just curious!! but I must admit alhmadulilah somali parents are now aware of it and don't practice it outside of somalia and not to mention its illegal but they are becoming more religiously aware that it is not permissible to do this. Do somalis still practice it back home???!!If so we have a lot of work to do ...and a little movie wont hurt but shed some light on issues that clearly Somalis wanna throw under the carpet... lets not talk about oh my god she is embarrassing somalis? what about all those girls living today with what their parents or grandparents did to them out of ignorance? what if the only thing they can do is stop others from doing such thing to their innocent young girls? just think abt it..I remember couple of years back posting on this issue and going why is the model embarrassing us yada yada..but since then I have studied this topic in depth and agree with malika's statement, YOU will never understand the impact of FGM on the lives of girls/women in a million years!
