Deeq A. Posted August 15, 2018 Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has said Qatar is standing by its "brothers in Turkey" as he announced a $15bn investment into the country's financial markets and banks. The emir's comments on Wednesday came after holding talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Turkey's capital. Turkey is currently grappling with a currency crisis and heightened tensions with the United States, its NATO ally. Sheikh Tamim is the first foreign head of state to visit Ankara since the stand-off with Washington began last week. "We stand by the brothers in Turkey that have stood with the issues of the Muslim World and with Qatar," Sheikh Tamim said in a tweet. "As part of the important talks that I held in Ankara on Friday with His Excellency President Erdogan, we announced a $15bn deposit package and investment projects in the country, which has a strong and solid productive economy." Erdogan and Sheikh Tamim also discusses ways to improve their strategic cooperation. Source: Hiiraan Online
Old_Observer Posted August 16, 2018 Very unfortunate for Somalia. It will be further down on the list of priorities or even dropped from list of Turkish projects all together. Farmaajo run to UAE and Eritrea faster than Abiy of Ethiopia. No option. Just do not do anything tangible against Djibouti.

Our relationships had never been this strong in our long history. Soomaalis are going to Turkiga for schools, vacations, seeking medical treatments and businesses. My extended family and their own families alone have been vacationing in Turkiga in the past year, instead of going to the usual places in Imaaraadka and Nayroobi. Many, many other Soomaalis are doing this, some relocating there with their families as well. Soomaalis are done with Imaaraadka.

galbeedi Posted August 16, 2018 The Turkish economy is strong in many different ways. Foreign nationals buying Turkish property is up 65%. ; in July , they had a quarter billion surplus in terms by their budget and many stake holders want the stability of the Turkish economy including power house Germany. Turkish private companies had borrowed billions from the European banks from Spain, Italy, Germany and UK, and these nations would lose billions if these compare default their payments. Turkey had always expected these, From late 2017, to this summer the Turkish bank had liquiditated and sold half of their Americas treasuriy bonds . Folks, this not a banana republic or some Eastern European country that could crush easily. It is a mighty nation of 80 million people who will be a player in the world affairs. There are another five or so Turkic speaking Central Asian nations that are also connected with Turkey. In early September, Turkey, Germany, France and Russia will be meeting in Istanbul to discuss Syria, security , refugee and defence issue without Trump managed USA. Turkey is targeted for so many reasons, yet it can’t be stopped anymore.. The Pax Americana that ruled the world since Second World War is dismantled with less than two years by Trump. These erratic behaviour of the Americans leadership is pushing many nations to find an alternative reserve currency for the global trade. If China, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and others use local currency for trade, the dollar could be weakened, and as the dollar goes down so does Uncle Sam. Other than the Lira , the Turkish economy is fundamentally strong. From Monday on the Lira is gaining an average of 5 to 7% . I am not worried about Turkey, but the UAE and others will be in grave trouble if Trump and company are impeached.

The issue is that as Turkey gets tied up in certain issues, the amount of time, the amount of money, the amount of activity they could have done in Somalia becomes less. Same with Qatar. Even America is so busy with China, Russia and Africa is being left to regional lords like UAE is one of them. Remember that the Shah of Iran and Haileslassie of Ethiopia are victims of Watergate scandal partly. Turkey had more activities in Ethiopia, Economic ones. Since new PM and later Eritrea which was decidedly against Turkey taking Suakin,...not much heard of Turkey. Next to China, Turkey was the sought after country in Ethiopia. Duufaan Posted August 16, 2018 This is part of new cold war. Some new countries are trying to be independent from existing system. We have now the so call market from Singapore to Island. It is all about making money on thin air and control world governments. Those who control has been most powerfull people. The market system will see every country to implement same rules politically and economically. The system is challenged. Turkey, China and Russia want to be independent actors. We will see who wins.Turkey has been part of market but Erdgon is outlier and they want to teach him lesson. But he is so far ending winning. The time has changed but the market has same old rules. You either with us or with them. I am predicting the market system will not survive the 21 century and will lead problems in the near future for the whole world.
