Somaliland: Khatumo leaders meet in Lasanod

Lasanod–Khatumo yesterday held the 9th conference in Lasanod, Sool’s provincial capital. The delegates and Khatumo leaders were in attendance. Hon. Ali Khalif Galeyr, Khatumo leader was chairing the meeting and was flanked by parliament speaker, Mohamud Omar and other leaders. Delegates from at home and abroad where also participating the gathering. Mr. Galeyr has spoken of the ongoing dialogue that Khatumo engaged with Somaliland and said that the talks are bearing fruit.

He reiterated that Puntland has nothing to offer to residents in Sanaag, Sool and Ayn and added that a common mutual understanding will be reached between Somaliland and Khatumo to have their share in government representation which is based on justice and equality for all citizens. He has asserted that Puntland is not in control Sool, Sanaag and Ayn which he said is unacceptable in the short and long run.

He said that it is a wishful thinking that politics and clan affiliation can go together which he meant to send a clear message that the dream of ruling Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions under Puntland’s control is out of the question which is impossible to happen. Finally, Mr. Galeyr called on clans fighting in El Afwein and its outskirts to stop the killings and observe peace and security. This is the first time that Khatumo held its meeting in Lasanod since its inception in Taleh in 2013.
