Somaliland: VP reaches El Afweyn, meets with peace making delegates

ERIGAVO–The deputy president of Somaliland His Excellency Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail alias “Sayli’i” reaches El Afweyn in Sanaag region where his mission is to end the protracted inter clan fighting that has been going in the town for some time.

The VP was greeted upon arrival at El Afweyn by the minister responsible for home affairs, Hon. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed and many local traditional chiefs. The VP held meetings with all delegations from all corners of the country and who are tasked to find a lasting solution to the skirmishes between two brotherly clans that have been fighting in El Afweyn. The VP said that our mission is to make peace among the two clans no matter how long it will take. He stated that the two clans share blood and it is unfortunate that they took arms against each other. He urged the peace makers to do all they can to bring all clans to the table so that a comprehensive peace accord will be signed among the warring clans. He also held discussions with local imams and religious leaders who are well known in Somaliland and who are part of the peace making mission.

In addition, the Vice President has met with local traditional leaders in Gar Adag which is nearby to El Afweyn and urged them to strengthen security and to play their role in ending the war between clans.
