High divorce rate amongst somalis ? Do you agree?

Malika,

She asked a question and at the bottom apologised if her question offended. She is a teenager and she been open about her ignorance of our culture. Most of us on this forum are MUCH older than her and I don't think engaging with her politely indicates a lack of self esteem...

You and Ibts made good comments on the differences in our cultures but all the none-sense about curry, Pakistanis not washing and demeaning gross generalisations were uncalled for.

I think its a well established truth that divorce is rampant amongst the Somali community in the diaspora. Rather than finding excuses for divorce, we should instead be looking to find solutions to this epidemic.

I think from what I have seen there are a number of reasons for the increase in divorce rates.

1. Societal pressures for women to get married as soon as possible.

2. Lack of companionship and mutual respect between the husband and the wife.

3. Men losing their roles as bread-winners.

4. The emancipation of women and the creation of opportunities.

5. Turning away from Islam and people becoming more western and liberal.

7. Marriage being no longer a sacred institution that should be protected

8. External forces seeking to destroy the family (extended families esp. Mothers in Law from the woman side)

9. No patience and trying to work things out

10. Divorce becoming common and a viable soultion to end a have decent marriage.

11. Extra-matiral affairs

There might more that I have missed out. This is just stretching the surface, I am sure there more reasons.

^^ I know. smile.gif

The point he was making was that it is rude to write/gossip in Somali when the author of the thread did not understand a word of it. What does he go and do to make that point? He WRITES in Somali. :D

Jazaka Allah indeed. :D

lol I guess its better to speak English, instead of speaking a language she can not understand. And, I felt it honestly when I visited sweden, its so frustrating when people are speaking swedish and your just sitting there not knowing whats going on...alhmadulilah though many of them were english speaking since its the 2nd language theyr taught at school...bt still many times they would just go on speaking swedish...its like hello am here too (so annoying!!)

Ah get over it now. Should we be expected to 'change' our natural way of writing for every happy-go-lucky non-Somali visitor? We're not here to honour political correctness folks but to speak as freely as we wish. And thus we will.

Be nice to fellow Muslims..heh. Who are we kidding here. What a joke. I aint having none of that. Ciddii halkan inoogu timaadda should find a way to come to terms with af-Somali.

Show offs!
