Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted February 1, 2006 Salaan... The stink of that e-musqusha was unbearable; a lot of folks complained, some saying weyso ayaa u dhooran, others cali falaaxooda iyo guntiinadooda aa u daahirsan. Abraar, shaah kari hee, qolkaan adigee biibito kuu tahay, oo shaahaa ka ganacso, sanjabiilka, heelka, qurfaha iyo dhagayaraha haka iloowin. Tabeelo weyna ku dhaji: Jaad waa mamnuuc! Haye inta kasii wada doonaa su'aalihii ku saabsanaa af Soomaaliga. Originally posted by Castro: quote:Cashara labaad maanta waxaa waaye, ereyada Soomaali laga heli karo laakiin.... Of course, casharka waaye [another borrowed word, by the way; what is its Soomaali equivalent? Leyli?], ookiyaalkii waa qaban waaye inay xarafka "k" maqanyahay. And stop corrupting the unsuspecting Soomaali barad meeshaan ku jiro by using this overused word, "atheer." If your Astro tongue cannot pronounce it properly, say after me, a-d-eer. Feeri, guudh. Paragon, ereyga "soor" sadex definition inuu lee yahay ayaan moodaa. #1 soor oo soorta la cuno. #2 soor oo ah wax la kala sooco [mise ereyga sooc iyo soor ayaan isku qaldoyaa?]. #3 soor waxee noqonee iyadana soori Calaa kuli xaal, sidaa tiraahday waaye afsooc ayaa haboon. Horta makala taqanaa ereyada iskuqabadka Soomaaliga ugu badan? Yacni tusaale ereyga "af" waxaa lagu qaban karaa boqolaal xaraf, sida afhayeen, afgarad, afloow, aftahan, afmiinshaar, afmadoow, afgooye, affeey... Ereyga labaad ka badan af waxaan u maleynaa inuu yahay 'war.' Warfaafin, wargeys, warfaa, waryaa, warloow, warbaahin, wariye, warsame, warsan... Yaa ku xigo xaga badnaanta taloow? Ereyada diid iyo doon yaa badan taloow? Sida keenadiid, caydiid, qeybdiid, kalidiid ama sheekhdoon, abtidoon, roobdoon, nabadoon... maa ku xigo? Oh, ereyga 'dheer' aan ilooway. Asaga top five uu ku jiraa. Marka ereyadaas ayaan rabaa, koleey waa badan yihiin, laakiin kuwa ugu badan ayaan rabaa, sida "war, af, diid, doon, dheer" camal. Dadka afyaqaanada ereyadaan magac gooni loogo yeero maku lee yihiin af Soomaaliga. Qof kor ku dhagan magaciis waxaan ku arkaa inuu yahay 'baxarsaaf,' yaa sheegi karo ereygaas waxa laga wado? Ta kale, we have one too many nomads who could use immediate SSL lessons, marka sheekadan waa yara advanced ee waxa muhiimka ah bal soo ban dhig. Let the first nomad you enrol be our dear brother Stoic, inanku i caawiyaay bu ku qeelinayaa, and then after that Mr. Atheer and many more can be enrolled as we see fit I've a deadline (somali?) to meet in like one hr soo waan soo noqon Insha'Allah. PS: baxarzaaf waxaan u aqaanaa anu geed sida geed hindigii xamar u baxa oo laga helo Ethiopia (at least that's where I've seen it)...waa la isku huuriyaa caleemahiisa during the colder seasons, it has a very soothing/therapeutic effect. Jacpher Posted February 2, 2006 LOL@generous mouth. Dadka afyaqaanada ereyadaan magac gooni loogo yeero maku lee yihiin af Soomaaliga. Haa, prefix (horgale) waaye nooh.
Gabbal Posted February 2, 2006 ^Maxaad u qosli aftahan is there but just short of "afmaal". In rough terms "af" means mouth while "tahan" means qof wax badan haya, i.e generous amount. war, af, diid, doon, dheer" camal. Dadka afyaqaanada ereyadaan magac gooni loogo yeero maku lee yihiin af Soomaaliga. They are their own words, but majority of the time they are prefixes and/or suffixes. Jacpher Posted February 2, 2006 Your sense of comic is killing me sxb. Inanta ha ka waali nooh adi. Ma u dirtidoo Aftahan.com and she’ll come back with one or two gabay. In a way, you're right, that's the literal translation of the word. But Check out this site, it says aftahan means orator, whatever that is.
Gabbal Posted February 2, 2006 ^Well yeah, orator is the literal translation but I felt that inanta was looking for rough translation.
Mowgli Posted February 2, 2006 ^^ lol talk about confusion...here i was thinking the word aftahan was only used behind closed doors Thanks duca for saving me
Jacpher Posted February 2, 2006 Kashanre, you’re the official translator of Somali proverbs. Start with these two. I’m sure you’ll polish them with a touch of humor. 1. Naag waa guri ama god ha kaga jirto. (or) Naag ha kaga jirto guri ama god. "Your woman should be in the house or in the grave." 2. Nin wax cunay xishood. "A man who has eaten something becomes shy." Can you top that! Source Idil, SOL is full of mines, ready to go off at any moment.
Nephissa Posted February 2, 2006 ^ Uhu uhu top this: A finger alone can not wash a face! (Far kaliya fool ma dhaqdo.) You should sleep over a dog's skin when it concerns your interest! (Dantaada maqaar eey baa loogu seexdaa.) Haye, one more.. Every camel was once upon a time two years old! (Geel laba jir soo wada mar.)
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted February 2, 2006 Waraada quit butchering the maahmaahyada, and heerkaas ma gaarin. Birimo iyo sugunto wax ku saabsan soo bandhiga yaaqeey. Passion, topickaan topic kale uu kasoo jiidamay, ee hadaa ku cusubtahay ha wareerin. Koob shaah Abraar ka dalmo, aniga aa ku qoran bixintiis. Idil, baxarsaaf is a tall, beautiful, grey-coloured leaves tree. I kinda fell in love with this tree. It also exudes a very unique smell, not to mention its dried and burned leaves are a killer against mosquitos. And for aftahan, it is title given for an eloquent person. Aftahanimo is eloquence. Afmaal, on the other hand, is orator. The ereyga "af" is an interesting prefix. Just take a look afgambi, afduub , aflagaado, afceliye, afeefso.. Abraar, shaaha kari, warka badan jooji, inaay. Kashanre/Ducaqabe/Bishaaro, bring words you find interesting.
Allamagan Posted February 2, 2006 Alla maxaa maahmaahyadii lagu cayaaray. These maahmaahyo translations are too literal

Like Geed Hindi and Mirimiri trees it was introduced to Somalia. These trees made Mogadishu a man-made green city. Anigu, my heart is for two trees. The Qurac and the Baar tree. Baarka qof yaqaan ma jiraa? Its said that Janno is filled with these elegant trees. MMAqiyaar, maybe cashar baad inaga siin kartaa about the come about of Somali names of magaalooyin and gobolo.
