There is something unique, particular, exceptional about this small country. It indeed is a very, highly civilized nation state.

 

It tops among the very few nations, besides ours, that I have utmost respect for. There is something about this landlocked nation with one of the oldest federal charters with three different and equal and competing languages and people that almost never had a major war -- neither dagaal sokeeye nor dagaal xuduud, even includin being Hitler's neighbour-- almost a thousand years, where not a year went when all their neighbours had had squabbles, skirmishes and wars all the time.

 

Another interesting fact about Switzerland is that almost every internationally compiled list, it is among the top five. Whether the list is about the top and best lived cities or whether the countries has the best and highest quality of living in life. Switzerland and her cities [Zurich, Geneva] always has a spot on the top.

 

My abti lives there for a decade and half, alone. He refused to leave for UK, where most qaraabo live, and I can fairly understand why now.

I beg to differ; the past seems to suggest a view of a bloody savage swisses hacking each other in civil wars and bloody invasions by French, Austrians and Rusians

 

• 1291 the struggle (meaning a bloody war) against the Habsburgs

 

• 1315 the Holy Roman Impire came and kicked Habsburgs butt in another bloody war thousand of lives lost

 

• 1440 teritorial conflict Zurick succeded an other bloody civil war had to take place

 

• 1449 broke away from the Holy Roman Impire (in a bloody war of course)

 

• In 1506, Pope Julius II engaged (fought) the Swiss Guard

 

• Suffered 1st setback in 1515 with the Swiss defeat in the Battle of Marignano (yet another bloody war )

 

• The success of Zwingli's Reformation in some cantons led to inter-cantonal wars in 1529 and 1531 (their own Somalia thing)

 

• The conflict between Catholic and Protestant cantons persisted, erupting in further violence at the battles of Villmergen in 1656 and 1712 (More bloodier)

 

• Under the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648, European countries recognised Switzerland's independence from the Holy Roman Empire and its neutrality

 

 

But it never ended there, the bloody wars continued and the savage Swiss at the time paid a costly price

 

• In 1798, the armies of the French Revolution conquered Switzerland and imposed a new unified constitution (The new regime was known as the Helvetic Republic and was highly unpopular. It had been imposed by a foreign invading army, had destroyed centuries of tradition, including the right to worship, and had made Switzerland nothing more than a French satellite state.)

 

• When war broke out between France and other countries Switzerland found itself being invaded by other outside forces from Austria and Russia

Of course Switzerland has been peaceful n prosperous for the last 150 years or so but that is also true about many other countries

@tahliil your right, these people have had very very very bloody wars in their past and they have learnt from it. Lets hopethat we have learnt from these wars. Lets hope that we learn to share our land and that we learn to respect each other.
