  1. Somalia: Deputy parliament speaker defects to Jowhar Thu. November 03, 2005 12:45 am. Send this news article picture credit: dalka-somalia.com left: PM, Mr. Boqore, President Mr. Osman Elmi Boqore who was sitting for absent speaker of the in Mogadishu defected to Jowhar quietly in a surprise change of heart today. His first stop was the presidential compound where President Abdulahi Yusuf, Prime Minister Ali Gedi and other high ranking government officials were at the time. Mogadishu faction leaders who are opposed to the interim government persuaded Mr. Boqore and many other members of the parliament, including the speaker to relocate from Nairobi, Kenya where the parliament and government were setup last year to Mogadishu, despite of government’s decision to relocate to Jowhar, 90 KM northeast of Mogadishu for security reasons. The speaker of the house, Mr. Hassan Sheik Adan went to Mogadishu with many members of the parliament in defiance initially but left the country soon afterwards leaving Mr. Boqore, who continued his stance against Jowhar based interim government until today in charge. Osman’s journey to Jowhar surprised everyone who is following Somalia’s current political landscape. Nevertheless, he’s not he first to defect from powerful Mogadishu faction leaders. Other members of the parliament left Mogadishu in frustration in the past few weeks. After emotional greetings hugging, Mr. Boqore talked to his former foes about the surprise defection and how his group’s efforts to reconcile with the government were sabotaged by Mogadishu faction leaders who swore to do whatever it takes to discredit and dissolve the interim government. 2. Four men and two women were killed and robbed near Bakara market after they shopped for tomorrow's Holly Eid, observed after the end of holly month of Ramadan. The massacre devastated Mogadishu residents who were preparing for one of the holiest and happiest days in the Muslim world. Families who were in celebratory just this morning are now mourning for the deaths of their loved ones. Shoppers started to take their guns with them to the markets. Many others simply stayed home. Mogadishu, the most dangerous city in the world has received much more than its share of Somalia’s civil war. While the rest of the country is peaceful and going forward, Mogadishu has been in chaos since 1991. Mogadishu warlords who claim to control the city never acknowledged their failures.

Do you think relatives of the 100+ innocent people his militias slaughtered in Qardho (all "Reer Puntland"), for example, think he's a "hero?" Reer Puntland should all be grateful to Col Yeey because he's a hero who defended their right blah blah. He couldn't even fight a coward like Jamac Cali Jamac man-to-man so he needed the backup of 1,000+ heavily-armed Ethiopian soldiers to help him. Some hero, huh." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stop the show-off will you I am getting sick and tied of it really. Don't bring bullshit to the table without prove kidd. (Slaughtered reer Qardho) Don't tell me that is some bullshit you read on some news websit. When it comes to clan ties were Reer Puntland who lived in Ethiopia. Wind_talker you wouldn't know what a coward is so If I was you I wouldn't call anyone that name. Jamac Cali Jamac was the hero who was fighting for a greater Puntland to some with your kind of mind. After it has taken you years to figure out the truth now you call him a Coward and before he was a "hero" make up your mind kidd. It seems Abduallhi Yusuf is 3 steps ahead of most Puntlanders like yourself huh.

  8. Ethiopia: Violence in Addis Tue. November 01, 2005 12:10 pm. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mapshells/africa/ethiopia/ethiopia.htm Ethiopia (SomaliNet) Addis Ababa Police clashed with opposition supporters, killing at least five people and wounding more than twenty. These clashes came after the government arrested members and supporters of the opposition party. The government is claiming the police used force in self-defense. However, people at the scene said the police were not in any danger when they started shooting indiscriminately, even shooting at bystanders. In western region of Gambella, Anuak rebels attacked police stations and killed at least twenty people, including state police chief. Anuaks have long fought with the government accusing state police of human rights abuses. Addis Ababa's clashes and arrests stem from last May's elections in which the opposition party charges Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and his party rigged the results and intimidated voters. Landlocked Ethiopia has borders with five East African nations, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea. Instability in the country would have great impact on all East Africa. Somalia is a prime example of what happens when governments are overthrown and the vacuum is not filled immediately. Hundreds of thousands of Somalis left the civil war that followed the overthrow of Somalia's last functioning government and are now scattered throughout the world. Thousands lost their lives in high seas trying to reach the Middle East or southern Europe. News Category: Africa Send this news article

  12. Press Release: Puntland State to Implement Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Programme - Monday, October 31, 2005 at 15:56 Press Release: Office of the Acting President of Puntland State The Vice President/Acting President of Puntland State of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Dahir announced today that Puntland has embarked on its first ever Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Programme in order to support peace and development throughout the country. The Acting President stressed that “Puntland is facing severe budgetary constraints, and must reform its security service in order to make it more cost-effective and efficient. DDR is a real opportunity to reduce the burden on Government and most importantly it offers demobilized personnel a chance to earn a living as a civilianâ€. At least 1000 eligible security force personnel will be demobilized over the next year with support from UNDP and donor countries. Demobilized personnel will hand over their small arms to Government and in return they will be provided on-the-job training and placement, formal education, rural resettlement or support to start their own micro-enterprises. The Acting President commended the strong commitment of the security forces, and the help of UNDP in carrying out this Government policy, and asked that the entire population gets behind this initiative. He added that “It is important that we pursue the development of the Puntland State economy and better the lives of its people; we should not use the security forces as a form of welfare systemâ€. 13. The BBC Somali Service used to be the favorite radio station for the Somali speakers throughout the wold. The BBC Somali Service has now been on the air for more than half a century. The programs broadcast over the BBC Somali Service were well-liked and popular with the Somali listeners. This is because the BBC kept the Somali listeners abreast of what was happening in the world and at homeland. In the past, the programs broadcast over the BBC Somali Service were interesting as well as entertaining. But today, its programs are dull, boring and tasteless. In fact, some of its programs are disgusting and even offensive. Because of this, many Somalis stay away and shun from listening to the news gathered from the home front and aired by the BBC Somali Service. The people believe the news gathered from Somalia is slanted, biased and therefore not credible. Since all things happen for a reason, the root-cause of the problem is Mr.Yusuf Garad, the head of the BBC Somali staff. Things have changed to the worst from the day he was made in charge of the station or as soon as he ascended to the throne. He at once became conceited and opinionated and consequently enraged the listeners to a great extent. Mr.Garad has exposed himself as a man with ulterior motives and hidden agenda. He turned the BBC Somali Service to one-man show and private talk radio. That is why many Somalis call the station Yusuf Garad radio . He is on the side of the warlords in the south. He is fond of interviewing the ring-leaders of the criminal militias in the south as well as the secessionists in the north. He acts as the spokesman and mouthpiece of the tribal opposition groups in the south and Mogadishu in particular. Their evil actions seem pleasing to him. What is more, he is in line with the hate-mongering media in Mogadishu. Previously he was a bugler and trumpeter for Arta regime. But he is now an archenemy of the TFG in Jowhar. Mr. Garad does not behave like a professional radio journalist. A good journalist respects the wishes and feelings of the listeners. He should not be influenced by personal beliefs, emotions or tribal inclinations. He should be fair and broach the subject under discussion from all perspectives. It is obvious that Mr. Garad is carrying out a mission that has been entrusted to him. He utilizes the BBC Somali Service as a venue for implementing his treacherous schemes. It is save to say that the BBC Somali section is a warlords' radio station. It promotes schism and discord among the Somali people. Mr. Garad is more harm than good. The people view him as an odd person and dangerous as a sand snake. Mr. Garad was the first person from his family to become head of the BBC Somali section. This reminds me a Somali folk tale regarding a bird that carried a burning twig in its peak for the first time and then set fire to its own nest. In brief, the plotters including Mr. Garad should know that they cannot frustrate the wish and will of the Somali people. With the leave of Allah, their stratagems and machinations will end in utter fiasco. By Mohamed Dad Mohameddad@hotmail.com 28 October 2005 Powered by AllPuntland.com Copyright ©AllPuntland.com
  14. In the BBC interview of 10/27/05 and in his press conference held in Hargeysa few days, Mr. Riyaale, president of Hargeysa regime, declared that his regime will go to war against Puntland if the latter invites foreign companies to prospect for petrol and minerals in its own territory. How absurd and preposterous! How can a man in his right mind call for starting a new civil war in Somalia during the holy month of Ramadan? It is a shame and disgrace. But no wonder, we are in the age of no reason. I have a question for Mr. Riyaale: Can a sparrow challenge an eagle? Can a dwarf challenge a giant? Can one shake a mountain? But who is this cocky man who is ruminating and hungering for war? Mr. Riyaale is a former a police detective officer during President Siyad's government. Later he became vice president of Hargeysa's separatist regime. After that he was sworn in as the president of that regime following the death of its late president Mr.Mohamed Ibrahim Egal. Thus Mr. Riyaale is an upstart who inherited a godsend position he never dreamed of. He differs from his predecessor in that the former, Mr. Egal, was a veteran politician with extensive experience in management and leadership. He depended on the power of convincing and persuasion coupled with unparalleled generosity and openhandedness. Mr. Riyaale does not possess any of these rare qualities. How then can he lead a nation? Mr. Riyaale is at a disadvantage because his police background overwhelms his personality. That is why he has a belligerent attitude. Mr. Riyaale heads a police state where there is no freedom of speech and where the secret police is all over the place. Mr. Riyaale is best remembered as the man who sent the troops now occupying Yagori and Adhicaddeeye that belong to Puntland State. We must take him as a real dangerous man. Mr. Riyaale is in the service of the clan that put him to the throne. The clan lives in three major towns in the north namely Hargeysa, Berbera and Burco. The clan is suffering from a severe and serious paranoia. They believe every Somali from other clans is their enemy and is trying to harm them. That is why the clan is making every effort to secede from unified Somalia and set up their own tiny clan state. But they are at a great disadvantage because other Somali clans in the region do not subscribe to this idea. The clan that dwells in the three towns had been in quest of territorial acquisition of land from Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC) since time immemorial. Their goal is to extend their power and domination. Mr. Riyaale fulfilled for them their unrealized lifelong ambition of occupying Darawish land . They have already tasted and found it to be delicious and flavorful. The next step is to dislodge the Darawish population from their land. Hargeysa regime is coveting SSC natural resources of minerals and livestock Unlike Hargeysa's bellicose regime, the people of Puntland want to live in lasting and permanent peace with all the Somali people in the south and in the north. The Putlanders believe the best policy is mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and good neighborly relations with all. However, Puntland will not tolerate any encroachment on its land. Mr. Riyaale don't awake the sleeping giant. Mr. Riyaale and his regime are advised to mind and attend to their own business and leave Puntland alone. He who warns is excused. 25. Somalia: Kenya bans flights to two Somalia airports Fri. October 28, 2005 01:08 pm. Send this news article Kenyan government informed its airline companies not to land at Dayniile, one of Somalia's busiest airports near Mogadishu and another airstrip in Marka, controlled by Mohamed Qanyare Afrah and Sheik Yusuf Mohamed Siad “Indha Ade†respectively. This move will hurt financially the faction leaders who receive tax, security and other administrative fees from flights to and from Kenya. All other airports are not affected. Airlines that ignore the government's decree will face losing their licenses. Unconfirmed reports say IGAD ("Eas African" Intergovernmental Authority on Development) is behind Kenya's decision to pull the plug on faction leaders who oppose the interim government. IGAD countries participated in Somalia’s two-year long reconciliation conference before the current government was established in Kenya last year. Another Mogadishu based faction leader, Muse Sudi Yalahow told Horn Afrik TV station in Mogadishu they will use anti-aircraft guns against Kenyan registered planes if they change route and use other airfields. A Kenyan airline company owner told the same station that his company and others will abide by their government’s decision. He said “We all carry full insurance†when asked about the threat from affected factions. News Category: Somalia Send this news article
