  1. ^ hehe. The first rule of stone throwing should be, don't throw them at people with guns. Now what was that game called with 5 pebbles and you put them down and pick them up whilst throwing one in the air?
  2. ^ Was he getting his monthly package of jaad? I am always afraid I'll open this thread and see someone I know
  3. ^ haha, you'd have to have a strong heart to go near that bloody demon child. I think if someone did they would have to release ten more demon kids to bite and kick the offender til they start crying.
  4. Hehe, Mario you beat me to it, I was going to post this, this really had me in stiches. I like to think I would have looked at the girl and smiled polietly and not reacted when she screamed but I think I would probably faint. Good detail with the blooming doll haha.
  5. Channels will charge charities for the air time that they use, we can't be naive about these things and it does not mean there is something dubious going on if the wadaad is being paid for his time to fund raise for a project. Whilst you may have had good intentions this will just cause confusion and suspicion which is a shame. Some "concrete" would be very welcome as people tend to say all sorts of things with no basis in truth.
  6. Rest assured Marx I have no reason to hate you. I laugh and cringe at your posts (like everyone else) from afar as I can imagine it would be too much effort to befriend you.
  7. hmmm, need a second source of income....that requires no time or effort
  8. Scary stuff. Why would an adult commit such a random act of violence. This happy slapping crap is usually associated with teenage boys in hoodies.

    Marrakech

Hi 5, we were in Marrakech last April. How long are you there for? The city itself doesn't take too long to explore, so if you're there for more than 3 days book some excursions. The Ben Yousef mosque and school is definitely worth seeing as is the old theatre, you will def see Masjidul Kutibiyah, if you hang around you will probably be able to be shown the top where you can see the whole city. Try to go to Essaouira, its a georgeous white washed beach town, really beautiful, about 2 1/2 hours drive. If I were to go again, I'd stay there. Cabs can be expensive and unnessary so take a good map and you should be fine to walk to most places. The souk in the old madinah, near masjidul Kutibiyah, is where everyone seems to concregate in the evenings and there are lots of places to eat and watch the madness of the souk unfold. Shops are aplenty and prices differ so I'd say don't buy anything for @ least the first couple of days until you know what's what. French phrase book would be useful and be prepared to be called Sudanese by everyone! Enjoy and let us know how you get on iA.
  10. Alpha I was talking to Oba, I think you are refering to something else that I don't understand the context of. Oba from what I have understood about your position, you seem to imply that Israel is justified in bombarding this tiny patch of land from the air and from the sea and killing without restraint. You may disagree with the Hamas strategy (others may say, what can they do, their elected leader was assinated) but it seems beyond belief that you can be angry that muslims are moved by the injustice they seeing happening day after day. This is a humanitarian issue but muslims feel so deeply about it as its happening to their brothers and sisters in Islam. You may have had bad experiences with Arabs but really this is misguided anger. You should instead be proud of these young Somalis engaging with world events and trying to do something, if you want them to do something about Somalia, then bring it to their attention.

  12. What a pathetic thread. I imagine your concern is of little use to Somalia or anywhere else if you're so narrow minded and pitiful. How on earth can you be angry that muslims are angered and saddened by the murder of innocent muslims while the world watches? It bloody scares me that there are people walking around who can be so small minded.
  13. ^ morning all, not a bad motto @ Malika, and when you earned the dollar, killer pair of shoes? Feel fat today, I knew that sticky toffee pudding was a mistake last night. Any news of our stranded member?
  14. Morning all, esp Juxa, bare gurelling it out on some run way. Sounds like you're making the best of a bad situation J, iA you will be on your way soon. This sort of thing happens too often.
  15. ^ my gender is niether here nor there, why should it change your response to my comment? I wasn't giving you a sermon, that last comment was my personal response to the thread, it wasn't mearnt for you in particular. However to answer your question, it's up to you to decide if and who to send money to, my point was for the vast majority of somalis living in the west with close family back home it's a must, and that money is used for a thousand and one "useful" things like medicine and schooling. As I said, it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY that you funded the guy's or anyone elses' journey to hajj so you can rest easy about that.
  16. ^ I thought you were going to write he got married again, now THAT would be a waste of your money. Unless you sent him a considerable amount of money I doubt you paid for him to go to hajj, he probably did that from saving for years. I also doubt that he has lost anything by you not sending him anymore money, the guy has done his hajj and he has a job. Finally as you're probably looking for a reaction about your "useless journey" comment, we're all adults here, we're all free to believe what we wish so lets not make excuses to swabble about our differences. If you have close family in Somalia, it's almost obligatory to send regular amounts back home. It's also nice to think that your pay day is also other peoples thousands of miles away!
  17. haha how dazed must you be to forget your hijab @ Ibti. Did you feel the breeze?

I came to the cesspool that was to become my home, becoming a ciyaal suuq in the dingy streets of North London, before becoming a self-aggrandising community spokesman. I now live in Hargesia, coming back to a hero's welcome. Somaliland has exceeded all my expectations. Its a dynamic place and I feel really integrated. I'm a regular guy, although those who know me very well would say otherwise. I would consider myself to be friendly but have been known to be quiet and sombre at times. For me, perceptions are two fold; what you think of yourself and what others think of you, so I believe its important to pay close attention to public perceptions. I use the the sharaf-o-meter as a threshold, adding and deducing points accordingly. I have great passion for Theory and occasionally indulge in my own theories, particularly those on power, control and domination. I have a keen interest in using a multi-faceted approach in developing a link between Culture,Society and Politics. I'm a culture-vulture and have a great interest in 'World Music' and 'Foreign Films'. I detest these terms but for lack of better terms, often find myself using them. As a cultural critic, I've sat on many panels and discussion forums. I regularly listen to the BBC World Service's The Forum and have applied to be on the discussion panel. I'm also currently writing a book entitled ''The Myth of Multiculturalism - Cultural Diversity and The Rise of Political Correctness'' I enjoy listening to all sorts of music including Somali music. I particularly enjoy listening to 'conscious' music, which really means music with a message. Music is a medium of expression and should reflect society in all its complexities. My taste in music varies according to my settings. In my spare time I like to travel, volunteer in social projects and meet new people.. Yes, but what colour is your hair?
  19. The challenges facing this town are massive, however letting so many children leave school not being able to read is criminal, it can happen, (I've seen it happen) but it shouldn't happen to hundreds of children. Getting services involved EARLY on with vunerable families so that there is some foundation when children are ready to begin school is important and has been proven to work. This does cost money though but so does imprisoning adults for many years later on. Factors like single parent families will impact the child massively but it's not an excuse that schools and other services can use for failing their kids.
  20. I personally enjoy these ridiculous threads, they lighten the mood. Haha. Embrace your natural colour dear man, and post a picture of your head so we can judge how much of a brunette you really are.
  21. There are a thousand loop holes and secret rules this govt uses to trample over ppls rights. in the least the owe the family a decent explanation..
