"TO A POET A THOUSAND YEARS HENCE" I who am dead a thousand years, And wrote this sweet archaic song, Send you my words for messengers The way I shall not pass along. I care not if you bridge the seas, Or ride secure the cruel sky, Or build consummate palaces Of metal or of masonry. But have you wine and music still, And statues and a bright-eyed love, And foolish thoughts of good and ill, And prayers to them who sit above? How shall we conquer? Like a wind That falls at eve our fancies blow, And old Maeonides the blind Said it three thousand years ago. O friend unseen, unborn, unknown, Student of our sweet English tongue, Read out my words at night, alone: I was a poet, I was young. Since I can never see your face, And never shake you by the hand, I send my soul through time and space To greet you. You will understand. By James Elroy Flecker (1884-1915).

^ hehe@ Stoic, don't let Ibti catch you calling your son "nigger" haha. But on a serious note, I bet very few of these shiny toys bring any real enjoyment to little ones.

Your welcome @ Raula and Aaliyah, hope you find it useful. I can imagine what with the number of adverts on TV during kiddie shows to the number of products that are covered with kids' favourite characters in the supermarket it can feel like a constant onslaught to buy "stuff" Like this lady it must be easier to start when they are very young.

Hatt, I am not interested in what you think "normal" people do nor I am I trying to make any money from the clothes I no longer wear. Why would you throw clothes away that other people can still wear? If my clothes are not in a condition to be worn again, I recycle them. It's called being responsible and caring about the environment. (Some people also call it being a hippy but there you go) Hahah@ Alpha, I forgot to thank you and I get a barrage of abuse haha, there is a word for people who are so emotionally fickle but can't think of it. But thanks anyway. Don't get me started on the division of society in H-Town, niether the time or the place.

^ I don't understand @ Hatt. Let me know if you find their number @ Juxa, the previous ones collected from home. No winter things, kids clothes/abayas that sorta thing.

A great blog by a lady whose new year resolution is to cut of kiddie consumerism and basically spend nothing on her 2 year old son for the whole year. No toys, clothes/shoes, kiddie specific foods, hair cuts, nappies! haha. http://www.freeourkids.co.uk/sample-page/ For those of you guys with kids, how hard do you feel the pressure to buy into the vast market? What sorts of things would you fork out money for, for the little darlings and what do you think is a big waste of money? One thing I don't understand is buying kids designer clothes at an early age, what's the point, they will just get it dirty and then grow out of them very quickly.

Thanks Oba, it really isn't that great. Alpha, ideally they would give them away to anyone who wants them, I know they might also sell them to small businesses back home who then sell them on to customers. Tbh, I don't really mind that, I still think their a better option than the local charity shop. Do you have info on them, I'd be interested.

Does anyone know any Somali charities that collect second hand clothes to send back home? We used to know one but lost their number and can't find any online. Thanks in advance.

Right, need to get some lettuce, haha, trying to grow my hair too. It gets to a certain lenght and then decides it's had enough. Also talking of hair ladies, what do you put onto your hair to moisturise it? I find oils to greasy and many of the other products in these afro caribbean hair shops have a horrible strong smell. Any advise appreciated. (forgive me Rahima but I didn't think it was necessary to begin a new thread)

Are these pills @ Rahima, never heard of them.

^ The Hindi weddings I have been to have not been particularly well organsied, just particularly boring and lifeless. Today, I am holding my breath, uncertain times ahead. Feels like walking nervously to the edge of a cliff and predicting the scene below.
-
hahaha@ this thread. All the best @ Wyre, it's hard to find a best friend/business partner online.
-
Today I nearly slipped into a coma at a hindi wedding. *****Yawn****** There really is no fun to be had there.

What is the point in atheists commenting on matters of faith? What's worse patronising people and insulting what people believe in? If you're muslim, yes the evil eye is true but like someone said, some people give it too much significance and jump to it too quickly.

^ Yurr. Really good day alhamdulliah and it was a Monday!

Sounds like last minute nerves and why would you not be nervou was about something that will change your life completely. You will settle into your new life inshAllah and wonder why you were so nervous. Btw Ng's theory that women are mad is a get out clause. If you say someone is mad then you just dismiss everything they say, NOT a good way to start married life or to maintain it.

Tonight I went to a wedding after a looong time. Somali women can move!

If it's forcing everyone to take a rest, maybe it ain't all bad, anyway nyt or morning whichever way you see 6am on a Saturday.

^ always on the dramatic side Alpha hehe@ its now or never. How much land are you looking to buy? What do you intend to do with it? Do you have someone to look after it for you if you are not planning on relocating?
