An important Somali clan had a long meeting this week and at the conclusion of the meeting a short statement was issued. Also, isn't that part of the red sea international waters? Shipping going from East Asia to Europe passes through there and it's a very strategically important area. More reasons why it can't happen.

Let’s forget for a second about how the numbers are represents and get back to the issue of the bridge. One billion seems like a lot to spend for these two countries (at least in my mind). Also, there is already a land bridge between Asia and Africa so is a second bridge necessary? I am sure there is some trade between Yemen and Djibouti but I doubt much (anyone have the numbers)? I mean, what do Yemen and Djibouti produce, except poor people? In any case, I seriously doubt that any such bridge will be constructed.

It’s unwise to think it easy to stop people that want to attack the TFG militia and foreign forces from doing so. After all, it doesn’t take much to fire a couple of mortars. The best solution is for the government to ask the foreign troops to leave the country and for the government to work with the Somali people towards reconciliation, after all reconciliation was the reason this government was created. Unless the foreign forces leave the country and a true reconciliation process is conducted we might see the violence in Somalia mirroring the violence of the early nineties.

1. The TFG is based on Qabiil (ie 4.5). Somali needs a form of government that will not institutionalize lineage differences. We need a form of government that will unite the people and treated them as equal citizens. 2. The TFG is full of criminals and warlords. We need a democratic government of the PEOPLE, not a warlord racket. 3. The TFG relies on the support of foreigners for its very existence. Somali needs a sovereign government that is beholden only to the interest of its citizens; not a client state that servers foreign masters.

The TFG was formed in a foreign country. They get their funding from foreign countries. They are protected by foreign militaries. They are constantly begging for move foreign money and military troops. Have you noticed how much time the Yeey and Gedi spend in foreign countries? (**are they in Somali now?**) So does the TFG work for foreigners or for the Somali people? If I was a betting man, I would bet foreigners.

The point of the TFG was to bring Somali clans to together to form a government of national reconciliation. It has not done that. What did it do? I'll tell you, it brought gaal tanks and war planes to our country. The TFG doesn't need the support of Sweden; it needs MY support (and yours). And it NO LONGER has mine.

Duke, you need to face the facts my friend. You can lie to yourself all you want but YOU and ME both know the trueth. No one supports the TFG except criminals and qabiilists.

Sweden supports them, Kenya Supports them, Ethiopia supports them, the USA supports them, China supports, Yeman supports them, UK supports them, UN supports them. Seems like the only people that do not support them are the Somali people!

Under the TFG system, Somalia will be divided into a number of sectarian states that will all have representation in a federal government. The TFG charter says that Mogadishu will be the capital of the country and that the “parliament” based on "sub sub sub-clan Somali political Leaders" will pass legislation governing the administration of that city. As things stand now Ethiopian troops and TFG forces control the city. Mogadishu since 1991 has had a change in demographics and is now mostly identified with one major clan and most people not from that clan that owned land and lived in Mogadishu have left. Instead of working to make Mogadishu a multi-clan, multi-cultural city, the TFG will keep the current demographic statuesque in place. As a matter of fact the TFG will institutionalize the current demographic statuesque. Under the TFG system since Somalia will be divided into qabiil based “states”, every city and town, including Mogadishu will be identified with a clan. ps. Believe it or not, the TFG Charter actually says parliament shall be selected by the sub sub sub-clan. I wonder why the parliament is based on "sub sub sub-clan Somali political Leaders"; why not base it on "sub sub sub sub sub sub-clan political leaders", or better yet base it on sub sub sub sub sub sub sub-clan CLAN leaders . How brainless is this TFG that they think in terms of sub sub sub-clanism. In a Somali ruled by the TFG, you can expect to live in the town of your sub sub sub-clan, and not the town of you birth.

The whole principle of the TFG is to divide the Somali people into clans and sub clans. To even get a simple job in this government you must represent a clan. You can’t work in it just for public service or to server the Somali people. The end result is that positions are given (and will continue to be given) based on qabiilist thinking and formulations (like the 4.5 idea). The result is clans fight over who gets what position and the government becomes another stage for clan jockeying instead of an institution for the public welfare.

Hello General Duke, I hope you're doing well. Lets keep in mind that "the federal states" will be qabiilist entities like Puntland, so the clan system will stay institutionalized (that is if the TFG even lasts long enough for these federal states to be created.) Second, please provide documentation that the TNG was infact based on the 4.5 qabiilist system. I read about the 4.5 system in the TFG charter but I've not been able to find such a statement about the TNG. Thanks.

This TFG will never work. The only way it will stay in power is by force (foreign force at that!) but Somali people will never except it. Why? Because it’s based on clanism. The thing about clanism is that it can only divide people but it will never unite them. You see at the root of the TFG system is the idea public politics and leadership is based on qabiil NOT citizenship. So the Somali people are divided up into 4.5 qabiil groups and all government institutions are staffed on the basis of qabiil. So the TFG is a qabiilist government . The thing about qabiilist politics is: you live by qabiil you die by qabiil. Just watch how the very thing that the TFG is based on (qabiil) destroys it.

If the clans of Somaliland know what is good for them, they will keep out this thing called the TFG. Whats the point of joining a government that will make things worst then they are now? The people of the South were doing much better and were safer before this ****** TFG came with the foriegners.

Why don't the TFG just send the Ethiopians away and talk to the clans then. Peace can be made between the Somali people, but there can be now peace when while there are foreign troops. The only option for the TFG would be to keep the foreign troops in the country indefinitely and to shot every long beard in the head. That’s not a very good option. I think the TFG should just tell the foreign troops to leave.
