  1. Wether AY's arrival in Mogadishu makes any difference or not to our ordeal remains to be seen!
  2. Revisiting Somali Culture and Tradition with Garaad Jaamac Garaad Cali Garaad Jaamac ..............."After soothing poetry and briefs presented by what sounded like delegates from their own respective constituents, at 7:00 P.M. sharp, the Grand Garaad, Garaad Jama Garaad Cali of the *********** clan, a man in his early thirties with elongated face wearing a carefully trimmed beard, hence giving his cheeks well-defined boundaries and a Somali-revered look, a full-bearded tall man (Gadh Madoobe), almost towering over most of his guests of honor, stood out of the gold glazed chair that he was assigned to sit on and reached out to the microphone. 4. It is a matter of fact that Somalia is under siege, with that said TFG's subsequent steps towards somali reconcilation peace process will have dramatic effect how in the future the somali state is governed, I believe inclusiveness is the way forward where moderate ICU members given their share in the governing body..
  5. I said it before and I will say it again, The courts and the TFG are sole responsible entities of this terrible sistuation we are found ourselves in. With that said, we are undersiege therefore we've to defend the motherland from the aggressors till our last drop of blood is spilled. Niether Aweys nor Yusuf is even aware what our MAATO is going through as I compose this email. As somalis we have to somehow develop a ways of living with our foe ethiopia, Ethiopia is the elephant in the horn, of course with the backup of the western powers, which we needs our aknowledgement.
  6. This editorial piece squares and analyzes the political impasse we, somalis, found ourselves in.. In my opinion it is worthy reading ......"For the last sixteen years, a period when Somalia lost the benefit of state protection and all service providing institutions, when unity and territorial integrity have been compromised, the nation's infrastructure has completely been gutted out to a bare minimum, and its pristine shores have been contaminated by unscrupulous European waste management companies; starvation, mayhem and disease have devastated entire sectors of its population. Somalia has been damaged to an irreparable degree. ..." Ka daalaco tifaftirka HALKAN
  7. Red Sea, some may think america is interested seeing a stable somalia, I personally doubt it.. Yusuf and Aweis are sole individuals who are responsible if war erupts and civilians are either killed or displaced.. they are in charge and their next manuevers in somali political discourse will shape somali's future.. May Allah enligthen them in the right path

  10. Here is informative and interesting piece to read.. Bravo WARDHEERNEWS! The leading light of the Emergent Somali Internet Portals By: A. Duale Sii'arag November 19, 2006 In reading the history of nations, we find that, like individuals, they have their whims and their peculiarities; their seasons of excitement and recklessness, when they care not what they do… We see one nation suddenly seized, from its highest to its lowest members, with a fierce desire of military glory; another as suddenly becoming crazed upon a religious scruple, and nether of them recovering its senses until it has shed rivers of blood and sowed a harvest of groans and tears, to be reaped by its posterity… Charles Mackay, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds (1841) Congrats from Maan-hadal Qaad salon! Flanked on both sides by stacks of thick Arabian pillows covered with a finely embroidered fabric and furnished with a stock of assorted soft drinks and water and some of the state-of-the-art gadgets - cellular phones and laptops - the entire chewing crowd of Maan-hadal are pleased to wish a Happy Second Anniversary to WardheerNews - the august and most venerated of all the Somali websites. At a time when Somali nationalism has helplessly tumbled; disunity had become increasingly fashionable and moral consciousness has receded to the lowest possible ebb; when communal cohesion had plummeted downwards and fragmentized and a plethora of emergent, miserably disillusioned, twaddle clanocentric Somali internet portals have mushroomed; WardheerNews provided a convenient venue for an inventory of ideas. My chewing-mates are not entirely composed of avid supporters of WardheerNews. Likewise, they are neither unanimous in the quest for secession nor in the desire to revive the battered Somali unity. Their views towards the Islamic Courts are evenly divided. Some may disagree or dislike the opinions and contents of the provocative editorials of WardheerNews and its daring deadly assault on the seemingly fashionable politics of delusion, warlordism and monster-breeding. However, all applaud the unwavering commitment of WardheerNews to established journalistic standards and its conformity to traditional values and ethos identified with the fine arts of journalism. In Maan-hadal, WardheerNews is acclaimed for being a reliable medium for objective reporting, balanced with a commitment to objectively reporting news on all Somali-inhabited regions. Its fearless, unbiased and balanced editorial page, often received with controversy, is a unique attribute that never misses the weary eyes of Maan-hadal. It is identified with well-written, informative and analytical reports and reviews on prevailing political developments in Somalia. Moreover, it has emerged as the most potent portal for intellectual discourse, as evidenced by the exclusive articles written by some of Somalia’s best and brightest. It transcends region, clan or sectarian oriented motives. In the past two years, WardheerNews has vigorously highlighted the leadership failures and political setbacks that beset the Somali inhabited regions in the Horn of Africa; human rights violations and unabated power abuse perpetuated by corrupt and rogue politicians. WardheerNews has been courageous in debunking political junkies, exposing vicious human trafficking and hatemongering political upstarts and always displayed the highest standards of professional journalism in the face of many daunting challenges. Hence, Wardheernews has become an important contribution to the lively debate in Maan-hadal. Maan-hadal is currently bracing for the seeming unstoppable sweeping tide of the Islamist forces that have already forcefully engulfed much of southern Somalia. A gathering tropical storm breeding forth a contagious Moga-virus that originated from the Banadir coastline is causing consternation here. With every sneeze of the Mullahs in Mogadishu, an unsettling paranoia is evolving in the immediate environment of Maan-hadal. Becoming increasingly fearful and edgy of the galloping forces of the victorious Mullahs of the South and wanting to mollify the homegrown, overambitious Islamists, Rayaale Kahin has recently publicly declared “Somaliland will be governed by the tenets of the Islamic Sharia Law”. From Galkacyo to Borama, the quest for Sharia has echoed largely due to a pathological fear of Islamists – indicative of the symptoms of the malaise which engulfed much of the Somali inhabited regions in the Horn that are yet to fall under the rule of the Islamists. The blowing wind of Shariah seems inescapable, at this moment in time. Rayaale’s perplexing declaration made on the occasion of the Eid holiday come short of announcing the establishment of an Islamic Court in Hargeisa. The declaration coincided with the return of Sheikh Ali Warsame from an extended visit to Mogadishu, at a time when both Puntland and Somaliland administrations have sought Ethiopian military support against the Islamic courts. Sheikh Ali Warsame, the Burao based founder of Al-Ittihad Al-Islami movement and brother-in-law of Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aways, the leader of the Islamic forces in southern Somalia, was greeted by thousands of supporters at the Berbera airport upon his return from Mogadishu. Sheikh Warsame traveled to Mogadishu in September after Sheikh Aways called him for consultations on Islamists inevitable move towards the territories currently under the jurisdiction of the Puntland and Somaliland administrations. At Maan-hadal, the marriage relationship between the two sheikhs made all the more interesting the political twist and turns that can only be made by a bunch of half-sane half-qaad-crazed Maan-hadalites. Does this relationship signify a genuine religious alliance? Did the sheikhs chalk out the road map for the future of Somalia and the Islamic revolution in the Horn of Africa? Are these devout visionaries or zealots pursuing political authority? Hasn’t both Sheikhs been through something like this before? Until the inevitable, divinely constituted Islamic theocracy takes root, Maan-hadal will continue lending receptive ears to the sophisticated, tape-recorded sermons of Sheikh Mustafe – the influential and foremost Islamic ideologue and Islamists’ president-designate (the wannabe Imam or Ameer-ul-Mumineen) for a united Islamic State of Somalia. Maan-hadal has learned that Ismael Omar Guelleh has initiated clandestine mediation efforts between the Islamists in Mogadishu and Rayaale Kaahin with a view of obviating agitation by Islamic Courts of their burgeoning members and supporters in Burao, Hargeisa and Borama. Rayaale has also dispatched several prominent Sultans - traditional leaders - to Mogadishu, for the same purpose. Is Rayaale likely to find a middle ground with the Islamists? Can he weather the storm? Political pundits and leading analysts of Maan-hadal are of the view that appeasement and conciliation efforts geared towards the euphoric Sheikhs is unlikely to yield mutual settlement, compromise or cohabitation. The consequences are all too predictable. The gathering political upheaval in Galkacyo - the current center of the swirling storm, is obviously unnerving many of the shaky and unstable regimes in the region. A tumultuous political seismic has already jolted the edifices of the governing palaces in conflict-ridden Horn of Africa Region – the eternal abode of war. From Nairobi to Addis Ababa and Djibouti, the chattering ruling classes are mumbling voices of fear and confusion. An imprudent intrusive Ethiopian policy towards Somalia is positively contributing to Islamists resuscitation efforts of the dilapidated Somali nationalism and unity. Jihad has been proclaimed against the infidels; militant holy warriors have been unleashed and fatwa issued against adversaries, apostates and non-Islamist apologists. Likewise, the sermons in the Christian churches in Ethiopia and Kenya are inundated with Islamophobic and belligerent literature. The beat of the war-drums is in perfect tone with the confrontational rhetoric of the belligerent leaders of the warring sides. As it seems, war clouds are about to burst with blood. This state-of-affairs presupposes that tolerance and sanity is desperately scarce in the Horn of Africa, presently. The tremor is being felt even in the most stable of all places – the cozy and stress-free Maan-hadal Qaad salon. (Of course, all of these presage the irrelevance of the ill-fated and disgraced Embagthi government and its ever-dwindling prospects, if not its eventual demise). Neither the saber rattling of the Mullahs nor the opportunistic overtures of Rayaale and Adde Muse would allay the growing public unease and trepidation in the face of the looming Islamist threats. Nothing other than the leafy Awaday would moisten the jaded palate of the chewing classes in Maan-hadal and associated salons that are already at the mercy of secretive, impersonal forces of the resurrected and recycled operatives of the former National Security Service (NSS). Until Maan-hadal reassembles its ritual gathering and chew over the vastly changing scenarios in the Horn, we wish WardheerNews all the best and salute its crew with a greeting from the Abadir of Harar who has blessed the Awaday qode that brightens the four corners of our topical mafrash. As for the recent pledge by the mafia leader to rule Waqooyi Bari under sharia law, only time will tell if its a publicity stunt as he did many times before or a genuine declaration. Indha Ade.. is one who was a monster to some in yesteryears and is a saint to some in today's somali current affairs . Pls don't compel me to take the discussion into that direction .. and u know I can come up a massive info regarding those others in the high ranks of the ICU thus I am here for a solution and not tempting making worse the situation that we found ourselves in.
  15. The word "Raas" has different meanings therefore it must be considered in what context it is in. Raas can be "Qoys", if it is derived from arabic word of "Ra'iz" then it may well be a head of a group or a place...

Dear Mr. Duuliye Some of the high ranking leaders of the ICU were the mafia of yesterday since we forgave them, can we do the same to Mr. Adde. or are we implying selectively Islamic law on people?. U failed to convince us what is your reasoning on the position taken.
  17. A timely and worthy reading piece regarding the political stalmate faced by the somali nation. The author ackowledges that it is a self-inflicted wound. However, on this analysis he focuses on how the so-called neighbors, namely Kenya and Ethiopia, are meddling somali affairs and making the political instability of Somalia to exaburate without considering the detrimental effect of their actions. ........."On the negative side, Ethiopia sees the advent of the Islamic Union as heralding a new dawn ushering in its wake the twin nightmares Ethiopia fears most: Islamic revival and Somali nationalism that could unravel all its political investment in Somalia that it has been assiduously putting in place all these years. The fall of the TFG when it comes - and it will come sooner or later despite Ethiopia’s desperate attempts to save it - will trigger a chain reaction that it could bring down its client regional administrations,- Puntland and Somaliland. Ethiopia correctly sees the revival of pan-Somali nationalism as an uncontrollable force that could spread like bush fire through the Somali territories it occupies. The writing is unmistakeably on the wall ...." Read here the full version of the article

  21. Great pics, thanks to those of you who posted them. It is an indication that the citizens' spirit of rebuilding the nation is at works.
  22. Let it be remembered, this unfolding development is not anyone's interest. I pray that this subsides quickly and involved parties seek a solution to the tragedy. I tell the nomads if this protracts, it will be a game that has no end. it will neither has winners or losers, It might even be the beginning of the end of somali peace process.

Do tell us the reality that you see on the ground and then we will discuss about it. What are your views? ps The article you posted here is far from the reality on the ground. The author can mislead an unsuspecting eye but to those who hail from that area and know better, this article represents nothing but cheap propaganda spewed by someone who wants to paint an ugly picture of Hargeisa. what made Silanyo, Waraabe and other to cross the border if that is not the glorification of your clannish dogma while there were more urgent issues that needed their attention at the time in Hargeisa and its environs ? What other issues awoowe? we need names, examples, events ... not just a non-specific term like "other issues"... of course there are always "other issues" but what "other issues" specifically? As leaders, Mudane Ahmed Mohamed Siilaanyo and Faisal Ali Waraabe and other SL officials have responsibility on their shouldiers to step in, in such situations. I see nothing wrong, unless you tell us what you think is wrong with that. Come back and be specific and more to the point. Let me first say that I do not think that many of you who are shouting from the top of your heads have probably read the Editorial. First in my opinion the editorial unfairly paints a positive picture on Somaliland. As the title suggests it is talking about how others can learn from Somaliland's experience as far as land disputes are concerned, particularly how Somaliland addresses legislatively the issue of land tenure. It also addresses some of the issues and shortcomings concerned. For example it says and I quote: "So far, in " Somaliland," the main problem of land dispute cases originates essentially from the incapacity of competent local institutions to intervene and the weakness of the courts to effectively exercise their authorities properly and expeditiously. The difficulty at present - aside from a legitimized and generally accepted legal system - is the need of some process to begin to sort out rival claims to land and resources. It is therefore of paramount significance and urgency to set up a Land Dispute commission to establish principles upon which local land disputes should be settled, but surely the problems have to be dealt with at the local level, which calls for some grass-roots procedures and mechanisms to be put in place." The article goes on and discusses some viable mechanisms that could be used to address the issues of land disputes. It further talks about a law that the so called Golaha Wakiilada passed, but unfortunately not implemented but according to the editorial would have laid down the necessary administrative provisions and modalities to be followed to ensure proper registration of land property by local government authorities. The article concludes by saying this: "The " Somaliland" land dispute and how it is tackling to regulate land tenure through legislation offers some valuable lessons to all regions". So let me suggest to these clannish zealots from that region to read and read thoroughly the piece before they even open their filthy spitting mouth. In my opinion the Editorial Board of Wardheernews were too generous to Somaliland. I personally do not think that they have that much to offer to the rest of Somalia apart from the highly contagious clannish hatred that they have been spreading to the rest of us. As to those who are asking for specifics, namely (Suldaanka & Qudhac), let me give you one example that was briefly mentioned also in the same article. Remember last year (December 2005) the incident between Reer Yoonis of the Jibriil Abokor and Reer Samatar dispute on a plot of land. (By the way both of these clans are predominantly from the Somali Region as many other clans in the North West). In that incident on that faithful day of 23rd December, 2005 some members of the parties involved unfortunately lost their lives. Have you forgotten the standoff in the Hargeysa Hospital as a result of that incident? Ma ilowday iyana wixii xumaa ee the so called Vice president said about that dispute and the subsequent conflict. He basically characterized according to Somaliland.org the parties involved (Jibriil Abokor and Reer Samatar) in that dispute as anti Somaliland clique of foreigners doonayay in ay bililiqaystaan dhakhtarka. Xusuus daranaa wiilku ma ummul baa?. As far as Oodweyne and Suldaanka are concerned all I can say is that you guys can continue to live in your own mirage. Red Sea our difference is within the threshold of tolerance.
