The way I see it...Society dictates what is right and what is wrong for most people. If you follow teh culture blindly then you loose all rational thought. Its up to the individual to figure out exactly what he will follow and he will not. I have found that when it comes to such things as culture uts mostly the women that follow blindly...maybe because they don;t know better or maybe because in that generation the women are less educated. In the cases that i've come across where a girl has gone through FGM, Its the mother who is pushing for it. Which is kind of ironic considering the fact that she knows how much pain is involved in such a process. But as education has become more wide spread the pratice of FGM has mostly died off. ^^^^ thats true. the other day my uncle had just come down form sweden so he was coming to visit us. I went into my room to get out of the awful baati I was wearing. went into my closet..put on a black shirt a jeans skirt put a scarf on my head and walked out to greet my uncle. As I was coming back to my room I just happened to glance down and I saw that the bottom half of my shirt was open and my little tummy was exposed !!! . It turns out that everytime my sister wears one of my shirts and she wants to take it off she opens all of the bottons...I hate that 'cause when i'm in a hurry to go to work I just slip the shirt over my head and i'm done. I guess this time she only re-bottoned teh first half...leaving me to expose myself....oh well...you live and learn.
