The Politics of Trash: Is Hargeysa about to call it Quits? by: Faisal Roble, City Planner Los Angeles, CA LINK: http://www.wardheernews.com/articles/jan/trash_pol.htm HIGHLIGHT: In the midst of this, Hargeysa is approaching what is expectedly to be a hotly contested parliamentary election this coming spring. Hence, the politics of trash in Hargaysa is on the front burner. That is why one has to assume that Rayaale's political cronies are the beneficiaries of these lucrative cash cow contracts in a city plagued by poverty and underemployment. If so, Hargeysa's Hall of administration shall finally call it quits under the mighty weight of its own politics of trash.

This has been going on for several years in the post-1991 era. Its been a sad and tragic story but finally its getting the necessary attention it needs to gain worldwide support. Let's hope these international companies who dump nuclear waste on Somalia's territorial waters (with the blessing of several warlords) will cease their treacherous acts in the face of int'l attention.

What we supposed to do with Arabic links? Pentagon spokesman Lawrence DiRita already said that Hirsh's report is "full of errors." The U.S. is already wishing it never went to Iraq - what makes him think they'll wanna attack Iran (which is socially, politically and militarily more sophisticated than Saddam's Iraq)? I think its a case of a reporter used to "blowing whistles" doing his job. He needs a story to keep getting his paycheck!

Nguna gnane what the hell kinda name is that? Them Somalis back home prolly be like "war bal eega jareerkaan. Miyuusan aheen kuwii kabaha noo toli jiray?" How you suppose they'll have a "discussion" with that kinda mentality?

Kinda resembles Abdullahi Yusuf's stance: When someone disagrees with you, disembowel them or send the 'boys' to 'take care' of the problem. I think the Afro-American population benefitted greatly from these polarized leaders. No reason to call MLK a 'field nigger.' Field niggers were harder than 'house niggers' - i.e. Colin Powell. -

lol@Nationalist What's the flag the ladies in the background (first pic) are holding in? -
Have you read the replies people have posted on the Amazon.com page? Seems like you're right on point wit this one homie. A pathetic attempt - the Qur'an is protected by its author - Allah swt. What's the worst a bunch of Kufaars and Yahuudis can do?

Very nice pictures walahi. Good to see people rebuild their lives.

^^ What's Gedo got to do with this? The districts in concern are in Galgaduud. I don't know how Gedo Region comes into this discussion. HOWEVER, let me ask a question: Do you see a threat in the further expansion of Puntland into districts, say, closer to home? The time of war is done - its about peace, progress and prosperity now. There are two different trains that'll take you to destiny: Train Hope: serves peace, progress and prosperity. Train Disaster: serves conflict, famine and poverty. Which one are you on? Let Reer Galgaduud make their decision based on what's best in their interest.

I don't know why people are celebrating. This so-called government hasn't even set foot on Somali soil - if they're a government, so are we. I call for Minister of Attacking Ethiopians!

NATIONALIST - Nugaal wasn't going to vote for M.A. Hashi anyways. It was either abstain from the vote or vote for Gen Adde Muuse. The way I see it, M.A. Hashi took Nugaal votes for granted. President-elect Adde Muuse had an excellent campaign strategy - depicted by how he received votes in every region!

This is a contradiction, as some of the nomads above have stated. I'm just glad I'm not a chick

My previous analysis was right on point: M.A. Hashi's loss was Nugaal (0 out of 9) and Sanaag (3 out of 11). Not surprising since he took their votes for granted, instead opting to campaign heavily in Bari (16 out of 21) and Mudug (7 out of 10) - both of which paid off in favor of him. Gen Adde Muuse got votes in EVERY region - something M.A. Hashi - with all his political wisdom and expertise - couldn't come up with. The graphs are good though.

My vote goes to Roger Milla for most exciting African soccer player for he grabbed the imagination of the world. But I'd also like to extend my congrats to none other than the Haji himself - Haji Diouf of Senegal. Did wonders to bring attention to an erstwhile unknown soccer team.

War of Words - Journalism v. Opinion in Somalia/land
wind.talker replied to wind.talker's topic in Politics
^^ Usually Jamhuuriya doesn't advocate a warlord or a qabiil. But if you read the article in question (which was posted as a 'news' item as opposed to 'opinion') you'll find that they're language is blatantly tribalistic in nature and revolves around the notion of separating Sool from Bari/Nugaal/Mudug - which is the stance of the Hargeisa regime. A mouthpiece of UDUB, no? Supporting Riyaale in his on-going battle to win support from Laascaanood. QUDHAC - Of course I'm against the filthy, tribalistic garbage Jamhuuriya has decided to publish on its website. Just as I am against any tribalistic garbage other sites post! BUT, you point about people in Laascaanood being dissappointed - its politics! People were also dissappointed in Bari, Sanaag, Mudug - even Garoowe itself! Jamhuuriya made a good job of making it look as if Reer Laascaanood were the 'sore' losers because their 'man' didn't win. Such childish garbage. Yet, you're ready to swear on everything that its all true. Originally posted by Nationalist: I bet you love Puntlandpost, Horseednet and SBCNews right in contrast to Allpuntland? Actually I don't. Except for SBC Online - they tend to have interesting audio interviews. But AllPuntland.com is openly biased. Go back and re-read the articles they wrote during the Jama Ali Jama saga. Such filth! -
War of Words - Journalism v. Opinion in Somalia/land

Originally posted by HornAfrique: The Somali news sources are largely read by their "constituency", i.e. Qabiil, and if their news does not match up to what their constituency wants to hear, then where would they get their audience? You raise an excellent point here homie. I'm not saying objectivity is possible - in fact, I know that's an almost impossible task. We (humans) tend to include snippets of our opinion and our backgrounds when we express ourselves, including through writing. But these Somali news sites are so overtly biased that I'm shocked when some people immediately believe them as if they were the word of God! You're right - we are also part of the problem. Because, unforetunately, some of us immediately believe what our newspapers tell us. Take Mr. QUDHAC (not to pick on you buddy) for instance. Before answering the question, he jumped on the defensive of Jamhuuriya. I guess he's part of the 'constituency' of Jamhuuriya readers. Nothing wrong with that - but don't defend it when its wrong.
