  1. As he stepped off the plane, President Yusuf Ahmed reportedly received a 21-gun salute from single cannon as police in military uniform stood to attention. Oh, he (Mohamed Dheere admin) shouldn't have. Abdullahi Yusuf must be blushing.. Seriously, good to know the so-called threats against Ghedi's landing in Jowhar were false. All reports indicate that NO ONE had guns within the city. That, my friend, has the semblance of a capital.
  2. I'm with MACALIMUU on this. No warlord will relinquish his powerbase without a fair fight. No warlord will accept another warlord as 'president' while they'd fought the same civil war and benefitted in a similar fashion. But, Allah SWT knows best. The best thing we can do is pray for Somalia - pray for peace, pray for compromise and pray for visionary leadership.
  3. Originally posted by HornAfrique: The Ugaas of Guri-Ceel decided to send a small contingent of scouts with Barre Hiirale so as to guide him through those lands. Horta, thanks for all the info. I knew some, some was new to me - such as the quote above. So, Reer Guriceel only have have a 'small contingent of scouts' in Kismaayo?
  4. Originally posted by HornAfrique: Appeared out of nowhere? Col Barre Aadan Shire (Hiiraale) is most famous for being the man to have repelled Caydiid's (ilaahay ha u naxariisto) invasion of Gedo! Way before Kismayo, it was Hiiraale's bullet that peirced Col Shabeele's body and sent Caydiid limping away in injury from Gedo! I didn't even know any of this. So, he repelled Caydiid's invading militia. Then, time passed, and he called upon their assistance to capture Kismaayo? The unpredictability of Somali politics, I suppose.
  5. LOL The second picture is funny tho. The ETs army disguising as IGAD and ready to set foot on Somalia's national capital. The fallen soldiers from the 1977-78 Western Somalia War must be turning in their graves!
  6. Allaha u naxaristo Islan Maxamad Islan Muuse - Nugaal region's traditional leader. His death is a double blow to the Nugaal community because of the recent loss of another leader (who was also the Islan's righthand man), Nabadoon Caydiid Cismaan Maxamuud (Soodhakhsade), who died less than a week ago (allaha u naxaristo). Geeridu waa xaq.
  7. ^^ Such stereotypical nonsense! Cidba sidey doonto bay u hadashaa. Maxaa Reer Baydhabo farta loogu fiiqaa? But, the story about Suuqa RRA-a story is very interesting. I've heard about it from relatives who've recently returned from the region. But what can one say? They're business folk - and you just can't hate them for that.
  8. Originally posted by Jumatatu: You picture pukeland look like as if it is the EC and you have the audacity to utter the word carbage..damn. And the other thing the residents of Baraxley are in the Mogadishu and under the shade of the mango trees..go and ask where those in north Galkacyo would like to live given the choice... I've already said all there is to say to you. When did I compare Puntland to the EC? Use facts - or are you also illiterate like your idols? It was a discussion. If you don't wanna participate, exit the building coz can't no one understand your the gibberish you consider English. You've officially murdered the alphabet. But, what else should I expect from a man who supports the cold-blooded murder of five, unarmed Nabadoons? Originally posted by Rahima: Only because they have turned to building Mogadishu . I must say though, each man should return to where he came from...But I doubt that anyone who has had a taste of Mogadishu not to mention gained success (in this world anyway), will be returning to Mudug (the Kaneeco is enough to make you run-thankfully my mum does not read SOL ) Did this a) forward the debate b) bring forth interesting news c) qualify as useless jibber-jabber? Why compare Mogadishu to Galkacyo? And, even more importantly, how does this apply to the topic at hand? I don't know why you quoted me when that part of my piece was directed at JUMATATU - the official USC (aka Ciyow Isii) flag holder. Mogadishu is what it is; and Galkacyo is what it is. Frankly, I'll take the Kaneeco over death or being wounded any day. I'm sure all the people who recently lost loved ones in useless Mogadishu violence will agree.
  9. This is a crazy story. People smuggling? I thought that was the specialty of the Chinese Triads. We have our own mafia groups and hangs then.
  10. Originally posted by Rahima: ...the periods of theocratic Muslim rule, such as in Cordoba or Baghdad, were also marked as periods of social, technological and scientific advancement and achievement. In fact, many of the foundations of the modern society owe themselves to Islamic contributions such as the invention of algebra, the establishment of the hospital, lighted cities, and the preservation of ancient Greek and Roman texts. It is ironic that the Muslim world contributed significantly to the development of the culture that would in the space of a few short centuries come to colonize it, in part because of the Muslim world’s abandonment of its faith. Laga bartay, laga badshe? They taught the Europeans how to best colonize them. And they saved Greek and Roman texts. For what purpose? Interesting article overall. A bit misleading, as HADDAD has already mentioned.
  11. HORN - Thanks for the two conflicting articles. Just makes me wonder who's really in charge in the districts of western Galguduud. JUMA - I found this on a news item page. Its a legitimate discussion about how Puntland (the image and the entity) will change if Galguduud districts are added into it. I've about had it with the pessimistic garbage you've painted SOL boards with. "Cismaan Caato is a legend; Yalaxow is a national treasure." Save us the cries of victimry - an emblem of the so-called SNM 'liberation struggle'. What caused the recent conflict in southern Mudug and Galguduud? The absolute disrespect Caato/Aideed Jr.'s subclan for peace and security in the homeland. The stark difference between northern Galgacyo (Puntland) and southern Galkacyo (USC/SNA) should remind you of the old, divided Berlin: in West Berlin, the West supported the West German government and helped that part of the city become a center of industry and economic prosperity. On the other hand, Soviet-backed East Berlin was a failure - a center for spy-rings, political assassinations, and useless, hate-inspired wrong ideas about Western political ideology. You do get the message or does it not fit in correctly with the rosy image of USCism that has clouded your mindset of late? SKY AFRICAN - I didn't get your point. How do you know Caabudwaaq will be part of Puntland? - you sound so sure. CHE - What do you mean "more inclusive?" What's (or who) is Puntland excluding? 12. This was an interesting news item on SBC Radio Online out of Boosaaso, Somalia: http://www.sbconline.net/news.php?page=newspage&id=3303 The Galguduud district of Cadaado - where recent intra-clan fighting has taken place - has requested to join Puntland State of Somalia. As noted in the SBC article, other Galguduud districts of Balanbale and Caabdudwaaq have already expressed their interest to merge with Puntland. If Cadaado were to join Puntland, what would change about the ideas people have "Puntland"? Seems to me that the interest these districts have expressed in a merger with Puntland have only reinforced the successful political idea the regional government has attained for itself over the last few years.
  13. First of all, Ethiopia today is not ruled by the Amhara tribe - it is ruled by PM Meles Zenawi, who hails from the Tigre tribe which reside in the mountains of nothern Ethiopia. Secondly, Ethiopia has economically or militarily backed EVERY single Somali warlord or leader in the post-1991 era. Be it Somaliland, Puntland, the various branches of the RRA, SPM, SNF, SRRC, USC/SNA, or simply USC! If Ethiopia is truly the "ENEMY," what do we call the warlords who have benefitted from the Somali civil war and who continue to benefit to this day? Me thinks the enemy is from within..
  14. Horn - Thanks for the info. Plus the Col. Biixi/Col. Barre Hiiraale alliance is new to me. I've known SNF-Biixi for sometime but I never knew how Hiiraale fit into the entire SNF thing. He seemed to appear out of nowhere and hit it big with the Kismaayo capture years ago.

His home is on loan from a foreign government, his bodyguards are borrowed from a foreign leader and he is assisted by staff who cannot afford to use their telephones. Yet he is widely seen as the only hope for Somalia. I thought this was a wonderful paragraph. Very detailed and descriptive, yet forever hopeful in its futuristic outlook. Abdullahi Yusuf seen as "the only hope for Somalia." Remains to be seen... Originally posted by HornAfrique: Fight the filthy, AIDS-infested, raw-meat eating cannablistic Habeshs who dare to even contemplate going anywhere near Somalia! This is a precendent that must not be allowed to stand. Our internal affairs shall be controlled by no one save us! Could this be the single act that unifies the nation? I truly hope so. The answer, I think sxb, is no. You got an entire crew (and they're quite sizeable; in SOL, they're led by General Duke) who'll swear that the only chance of peace for Somalia rests in the hands of foreign troops! So, whatchu got: two opposing groups of people, a group of potential enemy combatants nearby, and the further destruction of Somali lives! I say for once - just once as Somalis - let's agree on something!

These are positive first steps, sxb. I must also say that its about time the differing factions put aside their minor differences and agree on a fundamental agenda that'll benefit them all at: centralized self-governance of Gedo region. The benefits far outweigh any counter-argument an opposition force could muster. I'm not quite sure I fully understand the intra-politics of the region. What are the factions and what agendas do they adhere to? As in, what are the major disagreements v. alliances etc?
  17. ^^ Whoever's confused, hawl u taalo waaye. I've seen many cultures and their norms, and I have yet to see a culture that's better than ours (Somali). If I don't marry a Somali girl, I won't get married at all. Anyways, about the Indian chicks - what we supposed to do with that **** alwaax? The guy must've lived amongst white folk too long and gotten used to that flat shyt!
  18. There's her: Originally posted by *Diamante*: I can't believe some people here can talk so lightly about this. I'm seriously disturbed by this thread...As small as I was, I don't think that children should be subjected to that. Then, there's him: Originally posted by Brown-Brotha: Wallahi am so offended by some of you homourising one of the saddest moments in mankinds history...To some of us this is a chapter of our lives that we will hope to bury it forever. Some of us have lost very dear ppl in our lives, and its quite disrespectful that some of you folks come in here and jest on it. Finally, there's him: Originally posted by Northerner: I think the light hearted-ness in this thread is more of a reflection on our attitudes today. Even though the events back then were atrocious and badly effected the majority of somali families, the reponses to this thread show that people are ready to put the past behind them ^^ I agree with him. If we don't put the past behind us, are we supposed to cry and build museums in honor of the deceased? What's sadder than our past is the people who are CURRENTLY living in a civil-war-engulfed country, Somalia. Pray for them. But the past? Its gone and I'm sure we've all lost loved ones but GEERIDU WAA XAQ..
  19. Originally posted by CAAMIR: this is good developemntal plan. HAFZA is responsible for developing and operate several free zones throughout Puntland to operate autonomously from the Puntland State and the Federal Republic of Somalia for 99 years with a potential extension for a further 99 years. What the hell is "good" about this? The Republic of Cuba is still reeling from the 99-year contract lease they signed with the U.S. for use of Guantanamo Bay! Same for the Panama Canal. And Hong Kong - until 1997. These so-called development plans are a good start but why the hell do we need foreigners exploiting our land for 99 years? I think the idiotss who signed such an agreement (NO TAXES FOR 99 YEARS!) forgot to look at the long-term effects. But we'll see if this plan bears fruit or if its cheap talk.
  20. Good! They need more mass demonstrations against Ethiopian troops in all major Somali cities. Ethiopian (enemy) troops on Somali soil is a freaken disgrace. They arleady clown us for not having a government - their troops on our land is a free comedy show!
  21. Originally posted by Ambassador: you cant impress me with refubished stolen villas. i personally met people who control property of the 'expelled'....xamar is a tragic shadow of what it used to be. LOL Refurbished stolen villas! SXB, I was born in Xamar, too. No matter how bad it seems (or how bad others say it is), its still home to me (at heart). My fondest childhood memories (and my most nightmarish ones) all happened in Xamar. Its best to pray for Xamar and to wish its residents (Somalis) a better future and a second chance at truly rebuilding our disfigured capital. Hope must never die. 15-plus years of anarchy and Xamar is still the talk of the world. Like SULDAAN said, its truly a facinating city where good and bad co-exist in a volatile and delicate equilibrium.
  22. I came back from dugsi-Qur'aan only to see my whole extended family packing and hundreds of militias leading our escape from Xamar to Kismaayo. I still remember the lady who placed her luggage on my lap as we sat in the back of a huge truck and drove from Xamar to Kuntunwarey!

  24. Originally posted by Jumatatu: Coming from someone talking to somebody who has kept him in between blocks of arid land over the last 14 years is very suprising. How soon you forgot abti, that C/llahi came begging for the peace in Galkacyo by 'gurguraad' to Aideed in 1993 (note) in Mogadishu. How soon you forgot that I have made sure his domain never exceeded beyond and between Galkacyo and Bosaso. Never Duke , never you raise your voice at my presence, when only recently you sent your troops and General Abdi Bile to Kismayo that I reminded you of your capability. A couple of things here, sxb: 1) In 1993, when the USC was by far the most dominant military force in Somalia, they invaded Galkacyo led by the late Gen Mohamed Farax Caydiid (alaha u naxaristo). What happened? USC kinfolk are paying taxes today just to live amongst their brethren. 2) I have yet to see evidence linking Gen Morgan's attack on Kismaayo with Abdullahi Yusuf (who was in Nairobi at the time) or Puntland. This connection between Gen Morgan and Abdullah Yusuf is purely for tribal reason so that certain clans can brag that they'd defeated Northeastern (Puntland-allied clans) folk. Gen Morgan led SPM militia whose ranks were filled with men from the Jubba Valley region. SXBow, you can brag about defeating enemies (Puntland) all you want. But the sad reality of today contradicts everything you say: Mogadishu is divided into 15 sub-clan controlled fiefdoms and violence is an everyday affair. Southern Mudug and eastern Galguduud (USC inhabited areas) are on fire after a months-long intra-sub-clan war broke out. I'm sure you're familiar with this. I've always known the political highlight of USC factions was the expulsion of SSDF-SNF-SPM allied groups from Mogadishu. But to what end? I don't think the USC leadership ever had a clear political agenda to offer to the Somali people in general. They've long harbored ideas of oppression and have passed their sick mental illness to all clans allied to the former USC union.
  25. Originally posted by Jumatatu: but then again I forgot you despise Mudane Jamaac Jama Ali Jama is a coward of the first class, sxb. He sold out his integrity a long time ago. I'm still not convinced Somalia needs any more foreign interference. We should keep the circle tight yo!
