  1. Yeah. The Taliban called for "jihad." What was their fate? Tell adeer afarta wiil oo Reer Guriceel uu xero militari ku guray inay ku filneen "jihad." Waxaa loo baahan yahay Osama siduu yiri Adeer Indhacade
  2. Originally posted by xamar: Only South Africa and India have more people infected with HIV. So, from all that you write, you're under the impression that Somalis don't have HIV/AIDS? The number of Somalis with HIV/AIDS in Minnesota alone should be enough to make you re-evaluate your ethnocentric line of thinking. There are two issues here: 1) The African soldiers who come, some of whom will have AIDS. 2) Our honorable Somali women whom you seem to think will fall flat on their backs for the African soldiers. For what? There's poverty yes. But how did they survive for the past 15 years WITHOUT African soldiers to sleep with? You think they'll get rid of their dignity for a few dollars? WHERE ARE THE FEMINISTS when you need 'em.. Even more important, you seem to be quoting the honorable warlord Yalaxow. Yalaxow's lack of intellect can be measured by a single fact alone: he (and you) opposed Ethiopian troops because they were Somalia's archenemy. What about the HIV/AIDS rate in Ethiopia? According to UNICEF, it stands at 4.4% for adults between 15-49 years of age. In Nigeria, according to the same source, it stands at 5.4% for the same age group. Why didn't he oppose Ethiopia on the grounds of HIV/AIDS? A whopping 1% difference, yet, here you are discriminating against Nigeria while you overlook your neighbor's rate. 3. This Mudug conflict has continued for a very long time. Recently, when fights broke out between sub-clans in Cabudwaaq, the traditional leadership from the clan-family (Western Galguduud, Somali Galbeed, Puntland) stepped in to put an end to the nonsensical bloodshed. When will the USC traditional leadership step in and do the same? Its sad that Cismaan Caato is angered by peace attempts Gen Cadde Muuse has tried over the past month or so. What has he done to help stop the brotherly violence (other than inflame it, as the Suldan from Cadado recently alleged)? Sad human tragedy. I pray for the innocents caught in the middle of a political fight.
  4. Nigerians have their own problems! Ugandans are this! Cut the crap. Below the skin, all those who argue and demean fellow Africans are admitting to their hidden emotional issues that seem to favor Whites - maybe if "Americans" came all would be better? People are people. Nigerians and Ugandans have their own problems - so do Europeans and Americans. What do all these nations have in common? They all have governments, leaders and laws. We don't - at least not in the centralized sense. And Somalis are solving their own problems. Whatever foreign peacekeepers that arrive on Somali soil will be at the discretion of Somali military commanders who know the people, the land, the culture, and the religion. Peacekeepers won't do something they're not supposed to - for they know ALL Somalis will turn against them and they'll soon find themselves cornered from all directions. Somalia isn't Congo - we don't have the "dulqaad" some other cultures have. Its quite simple: A) You want change: you support foreign intervention to disarm thousands of militias. B) You want the status quo to continue: you oppose foreign intervention and pray for the day inter-clan violence resumes. Problem is, 1991 has come and gone. We've all seen war - there are no winners. Just losers, lots of lost sons and a myriad of DAMBI. Time to move on - ETHIOPIANS ARE NOT COMING. So, why are some still crying?

  6. I know these are mere allegations. But it makes one wonder: does Col Yeey trust his life in the hands of the often confused RRA leadership? REMEMBER, when the President/PM delegation was leaving Baydhabo to return to Nairobi, a group of renegade RRA soldiers demanded ransom money before the delegation could leave the airport. Things like these could happen - which only help to contribute more embarrassment for this fledgling government. So, is Col Yeey willing to take the same risk or would he much rather bring in his "own boys" (as some (biased) websites have alleged)? Some claim that troops from Puntland and from Somali-inhabited Zone 5 (Somali Galbeed) will secure Baydhabo for the Pres/PM's next visit. 7. Too many folks on Rahima's case. I just wanna say one thing sxb: you've gotta know the distinction between the "average person" and the "leader" of Mogadishu/Benadir. i.e. What are the chances of a former Senator from Texas (who's been a decent, God-fearing citizen of Chicago for the past 15 years) winning the Chicago mayoral race? Let's subsitute words: What are the chances of a politician from Hobyo (or Boorama, or Kismaayo, or Baardheere) - and who's been a decent, God-fearing citizen of Muqdisho for the past 15 years - winning a mayoral election in Muqdisho (provided it was free and fair)? Remember, he'll be competing against a native (born and raised in Muqdisho, or Chicago in the above example). Provided both candidates are of the same education level, public service etc. I'll bet my money on the native ANY DAY. And that's the point I was trying to deliver to you this entire time: the chances are slim-to-none of Reer Muqdisho voting in a man from another region of Somalia. Same can be said for all other cities in Somalia and in the world. PS: Of course, things could go the other direction, depending on campaign strategy, message delivery, experience and popularity. HOWEVER, remember we're talking about Somalia here. Voting blocs don't go according to policy but mainly according to clan affiliation. This has been the case since colonial-era Somalia. You think things have changed and Somalis have somehow been "enlightened"? If I assume "too much" as you've mentioned, then you're a champion of "wishful thinking." But, hey, some people still believe 2Pac is alive and others will swear they've been abducted by aliens. To each his own.

Why not cry and cower for the poor ethnic Somalis who's lands are being annexed? Why, why oh why? Oh, its because we're nationalists! I get it now. Its "nationalistic" to be an Ethiopian-supported warlord (i.e. Yalahow, who admitted it) and at the SAME TIME oppose Ethiopia? 10. HORN - Thanks for the post. I was at work today when an Eritrean colleague printed out this article and gave it to me. But he also asked me one question: "Since when is this news?" I'm wondering myself: since when is enmity between Somalia and Ethiopia news? Damn Col Yeey for posing the dreaded question and causing futher division amongst our people.

Originally posted by Rahima: Whilst I do not support any of these warlords establishing any regional government, if they so happen to be successful, I shall accept and support them (just like I support CY, anything for stability and governorship). If also by chance that the leaders happen to be of reer mudug/galgadud then why not, any person who is a rightful respectful citizen of the city deserves to run for the position. You my brother are going under the assumed fact that there is some sort of rivalry or animosity between the average folks of these two tribes. I don't understand why you're arguing here. You're saying your AGAINST the warlords establishing a regional gov't for Benadir (unless it happens to be a successful one - but, from history, we can rule out success because which warlord is willing to relinquish power to appease another one?). Of course any conscious Somali will support peace and unity in Muqdisho (or anywhere else in Somalia). BUT, you're still managing your way around my real question. You're saying that its okay for a Mudug/Galguud original (or anywhere else for that matter) to rule Muqdisho. How's that okay? A truly meaningful gov't for Benadir would be mostly composed of Benadiris - which excludes Reer Mudug/Galgaduud or anyone else. It makes more sense if the city's leaders are natives. Besides, its contrary to your earlier statement about NOT SUPPORTING warlord-led (read: Hobyo folk) regional gov't. Secondly, for you to say that there's no animosity between these two USC sub-clans just shows how naive you are to Somali politics. I'll leave it at that. P.S. Its good to know that USC-Hobyo-inhabited Muqdisho is doing well for itself. What of the other side?
  12. I've always known and believed that the enemy is from within. What difference does it make if an Ethiopian kills a Somali or a Somali kills another Somali (as has been going on since 1991)? They're both dead Somalis! (This is by no means me supporting Ethiopian troops in Somalia). I'm sure others have more enlightening opinions about Ethiopia's neo-colonization of Somalia through proxy leader Col Yeey.

  14. ^^ Very true. I know Prof Togane has a few screws loose in his head (some put his Islamic faith into question). But I was wondering what was Prof Togane "freed" from by the aforementioned sub-clan? The guy (Cumar Kulmiye) is claiming his sub-clan liberated Prof Togane - but from who or what? I thought the days of Ali Kenadid were behind us..
  15. Originally posted by Rahima: One minute Mogadishu is the capital, for all Somalis and cannot be claimed by any one qabiil, next it has traditional inhabitants and cannot be lived in by others. Explain to me which one? Mogadishu was, is and will always be the national Capital. However, that doesn't mean the city (and its environs) isn't the 'traditional' homeland to a segment of Somali population (as anybody will tell you). This is true everywhere: in Hargeisa, although its the Capital of S/land, the city is known as the 'traditional' homeland of a certain S/lander sub-clan. Same for Garoowe, Baydhabo etc. Mogadishu is the capital but its still the homeland of a sub-clan - but the problem is that sub-clan stands to loose plenty of political power if it lets people from Hobyo continue to run its affairs (this talk of Benadir regional admin led by Mudug warlords). Originally posted by Rahima: So now, what is the difference? Pre-91 these lands were owned by people who were not traditional inhabitants (reer hobyo, reer Northeast, Northwest), but now only because one remains and has bought most of the land legitimately it all makes it wrong? If PLs have chosen to sell their lands in the south, then they have the right to do so just as "reer hobyo" have the right to buy them. SXB, you're missing the whole point. Its not about what land was bought and sold because that's a legitimate exchange of property. Its about the folks from Hobyo who live there essentially 'occupy' the city because they came there with their guns. They impose rules and have clan-based administration in different fiefdoms within the city, all with utter disregard for the local (native) population. The same is true in Marka and other cities in the South. So, when warlords from Mudug (Caato, Caydiid & Co.) talk about establishing a 'Benadir regional gov't' it must be seen as disrespect because they have no right to make a regional admin without the consent of the native population (not from Hobyo). If Mohamed Dheere or RRA's Col. Shaatigaduud went to Hobyo with guns and said he'll establish a regional admin, it would be construed as an invasion, no? So, tell me what's the difference? Just because Reer Hobyo called their cousins over to work in Mogadishu (as Xogsade pointed out) doesn't give them the unilateral right to establish a government for Benadir. Why don't they do that in Hobyo (instead of fighting)? If they live and work there, they're Somali - cid u diidi kartaa ma jirto. Laakin the day they begin talking about establishing government and ruling the native population is the day they consider themselves de facto rulers of Benadir (simply bcoz they've got the most guns). That's as unacceptable as Riyale Kahin extending his rule into Laascaanood. Period. The point you made about non-native peoples (i.e. Northeast, NW, and Hobyo folks) in pre-1991 Mogadishu: no wonder they rebelled. The city was ruled by non-native folks, same as today because Reer Hobyo are obviously the most powerful bloc in Mogadishu. Unless you want another rebellion in the future (which is guaranteed if the status quo prevails), I suggest Reer Hobyo live in the city but ease off the talk about regional gov't. That can only come from within, not from Hobyo.

  18. Originally posted by Xoogsade: I don't know about specific reer Hobyo plans of taking over Muqdisho. I didn't get the CAMIR or DUKE comparison, please clarify. DUKE personally knows I don't like his Fox News-like take on anything Col Yeey-ish. Reer Hobyo, per se, don't have a 'plan' to 'take over' Muqdisho. Somalia is a country where each clan and sub-clan has a 'traditional land.' Benaadir - Muqdisho included - is the traditional land of a certain segment of Somali population. This was true before the war, and its more true during and after the war. However, what has happened as a direct result of the formation of the USC in its early days was a philosophy of expelling 'foreigners' - meaning people from the Bari, Gedo etc - and replacing them with people closer to the inhabitants of Benaadir, i.e. Reer Hobyo, with whom they share clan-family ties. The relocation of thousands and thousands of people from the same sub-clan in southern Somalia (who normally live in Hobyo and its environs) has somehow given original Hobyo-ians the right to occupy, control and claim parts of Benaadir, Shabelaha Hoose etc. This is what Mohamed Dheere has noticed. He sees Reer Hobyo's political elite attempting to change the population dynamics of southern Somalia, by making themselves the most powerful clan and controlling all the resources. He's asking a simple question: who gives them the right to come to Benaadir and claim control? Mohamed Dheere isn't in Hobyo claiming to be the ruling warlord. He's in Jowhar, where his clansmen are the majority and he's enjoys widespread support. Its a land-grab gimmick and its the number source of Somalia's problems today. Mohamed Dhere is using this TFG as a back-up to get across his real point: Reer Hobyo shouldn't decide the internal affairs of Benaadir. That - in his line of thinking - should be left to the majority, i.e. Muqdisho's traditional inhabitants, the sub-clan he's a member of. For the same reason I don't support a Reer Hargeisa annexation of Laascaanood, I don't support a Reer Hobyo annexation of Muqdisho. Its simple and its the reason we're still at war. Everyone should simply return to his/her 'traditional land' and we could square away the hardest part of our problems. But I doubt men like the self-styled ruler of Shabelaha Hoose listen to words.
  19. LOL Why waste your time reading Dayniile.com? If Siciid Dheere was arrested, the first Somali site his arrest would appear on would be Radio Garowe aka garoweonline.com. The real 'ouch' is the audio interview. I guess they just have to keep trying, don't they?
  20. The girl had points, but this is where she fell off the train: Originally posted by Bishaaro: I wonder if you'd salute Msawuee whatever his name is, if he was to deploy troops in Puntland or other parts of Somalia. Puntland is a region in Somalia. Therefore, the deployment of any troops in 'Somalia' have to include troop presence in Puntland, because its part of Somalia. Is that a hard concept to understand or are you more of a visual learner? Originally posted by Xoogsade: Puntland soldiers are to keep their arms since they fall under a local government that is indepedent from the federal body when it comes to their affairs Plus there is peace over there. First of all, the federal government you speak of only exists in Nairobi, on Somali news sites and here on SOL. Secondly, if you aren't aware, the Puntland Parliament is working on the Puntland regional constitution, to make sure that it doesn't violate any clauses in the agreed-upon federal constitution. Thirdly, militia demobilization is a Somalia-wide issue, and Puntland is no exception (actually, according to the IGAD leaders, the only place IGAD peacekeepers won't land in is 'Somaliland' - because the S/land leadership didn't partake in the Somali peace conference). Honestly, bro, do you really believe that Col Yeey (and Reer Puntland) is out to kill Reer Muqdisho? For what purpose? Many people who's ancestors hail from the Northeast returned to their ancestral homeland and have begun to rebuild their lives. You think they wanna risk a new civil war to avenge some end? And precisely, what end are they avenging? Being chased out of Muqdisho? Let's see: they've returned to build Boosaaso, Laasqoray, Badhan, Garoowe, Galkacyo, Laascaanood, Garacad etc and make them into self-sufficient cities. Where does Muqdisho figure into this equation? The people who want to change history and claim Muqdisho (and its environs) as their own are the folks from Hobyo - who have been busy in the past decade wrestling away control of the city from its traditional inhabitants (they tried to do the same land expansion exercise in Galkacyo in '93, but failed). No wonder the inhabitants have long ago taken back their old philosophy of 'timir saar tii-tiin abuur.' Its been disasterous for them because now they're busy fighting for control of their traditional homeland. Talk reality, sxb, not some far-fetched conspiracy theory about Puntland is coming to invade Muqdisho blah blah. They're busy handling their own, day-to-day affairs.
