I actually felt sorry for them, they felt they were low class here in UK, thats was enough to erode any sense of self respect or love they have for themselves. I couldnt relate to that, as a diasporan born and bred, we have always had a sense of belonging with our families, community and nation even though we were miles away from Somalia. Marka maa fahmo ciyalkaan qurbaha jooga why feel inferior or low class? It is about Ilaahay amarkiis and who raises you. Role model is very important. Many of them lack a father figure. They either have none or there is an invisible one, then there are things like cultural clash, peer pressure and so on. This is really sad!

Malika I agree they are even a burden to us here but change takes time and I wish them good luck.
  19. Blackflash;839763 wrote: At least they're not in jail? Is that the standard Somalis have set in today's world? I think Somali families have to learn to let go, we let the losers in our families drag the rest of us down. I have little sympathy for anyone who can't take care of themselves in a Western nation, how are they going to make a positive contribution in a country like Somalia? We need to be realstic about the Somali issue unless you are one of us from Mars...People make mistakes but they should not be criticized when they try to correct themselves. Your sympathy is yours and you have the right to offer it to anybody but my advise is not to jump onto conclusion.
  20. This is a step in the right direction and they should be congratulated rather than criticize.

I agree, Somalia should not only be a place for entertainment and vacation but a place for hard work too.
  22. Guess what, I think with large number of Somali diaspora in Western countries, some Asian and African countries ethnic Somalis could be the 1st on the list rather than 4th and this may not have been noticed because they are born outside Somalia. This is good for Somalia because the population was low already and a lot of people were lost during the civil war.

That is true. He visited me in Dubai and I remember taking him to what I call Jilba-Jabsi Yemeni Restaurant in Sharjah. Ahmed even forgot to include that he went to the US in Feb 2008. He and other friends picked me from MPLS airport. Has any SOL members tried his Timir cake at Blue Ocean or Village restaurants in London? Here is the nice Sharjah restaurant that I was talking about. It is called Beit Al-Mandy: N.O.R.F must have been a regular customer over here.
