  1. Xiin you are right however painful it is to negotiate whilst the Ethiopians are in our midst it seems to be the only viable option at the moment. I very much agree with Northerners point the only difference I would let Yey finish his term (since it’s only a couple of months left) but that he should not represent himself again. PS: a close source has told me that elders have advised the ALS not to make the Ethiopian Withdrawal as a prerequisite however a time line of withdrawal should be set. Ibrahiim Addow who was advised seemed to take it onboard very well. This is a Goodwill gesture to the efforts of the new Prime Minister.
  2. A very good video Marco. I believe he said that it is unrealistic to eradicate tribes or in our case clans because it is deeply ingrained in our make up. However for the greater good of unity one should focus on what can make the greater Somalia prosporues and stable even at the expense of one s clan. However like a nomad stated ones in this site when asked should Somaliland be apart of the Greater S “Show me the money” At the moment its fair to say there is no alternative for the average joe but to depend on his tribe. This government has made people feel very insecure and at a time when we should be moving past our tragic past the “President” and warlords on top of the TFG have opened new wounds. Good Marco mentioned that in the brief ICU reign even the folks in the North West were open and warm to the idea of greater Somalia. Which is very true you just need to lok in the archives of this site.
  3. Resistance for the sober secessionists and Anarchists? Saxibyaal, your time to discredit any national effort that would revive the Somali state has come to a big Halt and no amount of hideous remarks you write on these boards would loose the brakes. There will be no political reconciliation until all the impediments to the revival of Somali State are removed. We just need a low-level of reconciliation to garner more support for the TFG. Any other reconciliation effort above the already-failed 15th reconciliation processes would be futile as well. This path taken by the Machiavellian President Yusuf leads to the best route to returning Somalia's powerful central authority that would work with our neighboring countries besides conforming to what America wants and that is not steering our dependence from her trade and foreign policies in the Horn. We don't need the return of the culpable, the roundly hated Arabists and the brainwashed extremists who are conditioned to hate their own culture and African identity. Adeer we can agree on one thing that there will be no negotiation (as long as Ethiopian forces have there tanks in our country. The tough guy image Yey tries to potray whilst being protected by Ethiopian tanks in his homeland is not fooling anyone. In just over a year the mandate of this TFG will end, how on earth can you tackle a national opposition when you could not do it in the last 1 ½ years, so spare us the macho talk. Nobody is against our neighbour they have lived side buy side with us for over thousands of years. However they have breached our sovereignty and until they return they are at war with us. A government that flies every month to Ethiopia to be briefed does not represent Somalia but the goals of Addis. You do not see Museveni, Kibaki, Bashir or Afewerki flying to Addis to be told what to do. I repeat there will be no peace with Ethiopia until they respect the Somali sovereignty. Its simple saxiib not brain surgery Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia are in conflict because of illegal occupations and rest assured the locals always win
  4. Well it is fair to say that majority of people at least in this site support the younger more articulate candidate. But the point of this exercise was to prove that polls proves nothing. Different Somali media outlets produce different results at least SOL is not homogenous in views.
  5. Adeer do not let your support for Yey and Maxamed Dheere cloud your judgement there was and still is one large opposition party comprised of ICU, former parliamentarians and civil servants, they came up with an Agenda on how to tackle the current fiasco (I believe their motto and policies is posted somewhere on this site). ALS (Alliance for the Liberation of Somalia). Al shabaab when Ethiopia leaves will be incorporated into a national army, they have no clear political goal apart from ejecting Ethiopia out of Somalia and we should commend their goal but condemn the means they have taken to achieve this goal. The third group you have mentioned is none existent but a mere line Yey supporters use every time the man is criticized. But saxiib what you duke and the rest do not comprehend is that this government has failed. Adeer tensions in every corner of Somalia are higher now then when it came to “power”. The likes of Dukes mind set is if you oppose this government you are against the folks in Puntland, saxiib this government had full support when it first came to power, people were sceptic of seeing the warlord gangs take some important positions but for peace we decided to bury the 16 year hatchet. You want to know when the support left when Yey called for Ethiopian forces rather than reconciliation. And hence he will go down in the black pages of Somali history.
  6. NN still defending the Ethiopian banwagon. If I hadn’t known better I would have assumed you WAS our long lost neighbour Somali friend (what ever happened to him) Saxiib nobody is against Ethiopia and the US, one is our neighbour and the other is a leader of the modern world however when our soveireignty and integrity is breached all nationalist whether you live in Kismayo or Baanadir will defend their sovereign rights. I disagree with the methods the Shabaab use to eradicate the mercenaries from our country however their fundamental goal is one that all Somalis can unite under. T
  7. Liverpool will get worked With Adebayour in formidable form and arguably the most talented forward (Van Persie) gaining match fitness i say Hyppia has a lot work on his hand for the 3 games.
  8. I see the Era of Enron and the Asian financial crises in the horizon. The default of the banking system will have a serious effect on the world economy as it is the most Globalized industry in the world.
  9. Boss rues collapse of Hedge fund Global problems The fund is the latest casualty of the widening credit market crisis. CCC's problems emerged last week when it became apparent that the fund was not going to be able to service its debts. Some of the banks that had lent CCC money started liquidating assets, and the fund's shares, which are listed in Amsterdam, were suspended. I don't think one fund out of 60 will spoil a reputation built up over 20 years David Rubenstein Carlyle Group On Wednesday, CCC said that it had not been able to refinance its business and it had so far defaulted on about $16.6bn (£8.1bn) of its debt. CCC said that it would collapse if, as expected, its lenders seized the remaining assets. Other investment funds may now face similar problems, analysts fear. Mortgage worries In the past year, CCC and other global banks and hedge funds have been buying mortgage-backed securities. These were assets which offered strong returns and were seen as relatively safe investments because the US housing market had been enjoying relatively robust and uninterrupted growth. However, their value has plummeted in recent months after higher interest rates led to a drop in the housing market and a surge in mortgage defaults, especially in the sub-prime sector which focused on clients with low incomes or poor credit. With the sharp slowdown in the US housing market, doubts have emerged about the viability of mortgage assets even if they are not linked to sub-prime borrowers with poor credit. And it is this which has hit Carlyle - which held Triple A mortgage securities backed by government-sponsored mortgage lenders.. Helping hand Despite the problems, Carlyle's boss was upbeat about his company's future. "I don't think one fund out of 60 will spoil a reputation built up over 20 years," Mr Rubenstein told the Financial Times. "We have stood behind out products in the past and we are working on ways to address the losses that are being suffered by investors," he said.
  10. Bear Stearns gets emergency funds US bank Bear Stearns has got emergency funding, in a move that raises fears that even the top Wall Street names are suffering amidst the credit crunch. The Federal Reserve of New York and rival bank JP Morgan Chase will provide the money to Bear Stearns for 28 days. JP Morgan is also trying to get long-term financing for Bear Stearns. Bear Stearns has been at the centre of the US mortgage debt crisis, and there has been speculation that it was struggling to fund its daily business. Bear Stearns shares dropped as much as 53% to $28 on the news. 'Other banks' The credit crunch was caused because banks became less willing to lend to each other after they suffered large losses on investments linked to the US housing market. This created problems for a number of companies which relied on borrowing money to fund their business. In the UK, Northern Rock ran into trouble when its line of relatively cheap credit dried up. Analysts said that Bear Stearns may not be only bank suffering in the US. "The situation is very much that Bear Stearns was very close to the edge and it was much worse than we all thought," said Michael Klawitter of Dresdner Kleinwort. "It raises severe concerns over other banks." Alan Schwartz, president and chief executive officer of Bear Stearns, said: "Bear Stearns has been the subject of a multitude of market rumours regarding our liquidity. "We have tried to confront and dispel these rumours and parse fact from fiction. "Amidst this market chatter, our liquidity position in the last 24 hours had significantly deteriorated," he added. "We took this important step to restore confidence in us in the marketplace, strengthen our liquidity and allow us to Private equity giant Carlyle Group has pledged to "stand by" investors in the firm's failed billion dollar hedge fund, the Financial Times has reported. The firm's co-founder David Rubenstein told the newspaper that he was working on ways to address clients' losses. His comments came after Carlyle Capital Corporation (CCC), a unit of Carlyle Group, said it was unable to pay back its debts and may be liquidated. Some $600m (£295m) of clients' money will be lost if the fund fails.
  11. The Draw 1 Arsenal v Liverpool 2 AS Roma v Man Utd 3 Schalke 04 v FC Barcelona 4 Fenerbahce v Chelsea Champions League semi-final draw: 1 Arsenal/Liverpool v Fenerbahce/Chelsea 2 Schalke/Barcelona v AS Roma/Man Utd Unlucky Norf you and Ngonge are going to be trophe less this season
  12. This is a great Idea However we should be sceptical of idol worship. Shaytan encourages people to go that step further and next minute the place has become a pilgrimage.
  13. Never hopeless saxiib rally behind the candidate you feel will bring back Somalia to its feet and man that unites and not divides. If you do not want Yey or any of his gang (M Dheere, Qaybdeed etc) then support the candidates that will brings a better vision. WOW by this estimation if the vote was held today 85% of the population would be behind Sheikh Sharif. This is inline with my experience in the streets
  14. 1. Longest period of sustained low inflation since the 60s. 2. Record number of students in higher education. 3. 85,000 more nurses. 4. 12. 32,000 more doctors. 5. Introduced the Equality and Human Rights Commission. 6. On course to exceed our Kyoto target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 7. 600,000 children lifted out of relative poverty. 8. Cleanest rivers, beaches, drinking water and air since before the industrial revolution. 9. New Deal - helped over 1.8 million people into work. 10. Overseas aid budget more than doubled. These are just a few of the achievement of labour in the last 11 years. Marcas and CL if I was you I would pay special attention to achievement number 2 and go back to education enrolment prior to 1997. Decide on policies folks not because you want to be controversial or because it is hip to vote for a party. Gordon Brown is the best Chancellor this country has had in the last century and is doing very well as PM. Yes there are many policies that I disagree with the labour party however in comparison to Conservatives Labour is the best party hands down.
  15. Marcas Tories saxiib that’s a joke labour has done more for the Somali community then Conservatives could ever do. And I hope in general election sane Somali people won’t vote for Cameron the Chameleon
  16. There you go Ibti well done Ken Livingstone is the only viable option unless you want a drunk in office. so go and register folks and vote for Ken (I Kind of secretly like Boris policy of getting rid of the bendy busses)
  17. Thats not a tiger thats Fabregas or is it Flamini
  18. It goes to show you that the parliamentarians that elected him in 2004 were out of touch with the people. Every person I have spoken to feels that this man has taken us back to the era of the early 90’s. Tensions are high in a period when healing was meant to take place. Opposition should unite under one candidate in order to solidify the vote and since the good Sheikh is in poll position in the war of hearts and minds we should focus our energy towards him. Vote for Yey if you want to see the likes of Maxamed Dheere and Abdi Qaybdeed rule the streets of the Capital.
  19. forgive me old chap i meant being beaten in San Siro. unfortunatly I am not a beating man due to ethical reason or I would have been a millionaire. Liverpool European glory is over rated
  20. Not looking good for Yey by this estimate England winning Euro 2008 looks more realistic than Yey 2009. AZ your point noted
  21. So far so good for the young teacher who represents a new fresh Somalia free from its clan politics
  22. AdamZayla Think of it in this context, several worthy candidate where represented in election unfortunately they were eliminated in the first and second round and now these two candidates are left. In your opinion who do you think will bring back the nations sovereignty, reconcile the warring faction, give liberty to the economy, have good relationship with neighbouring states yet expressing with passion that the Somali sovereignty is a no go area and many more of the tasks required to bring a nation back on its feet. For me the choice is very simple its either the old soldier with his mid-evil mentality or a young teacher who represents a moderate Islam.
  23. This site is considered quite diverse let us see who people want as their next president
