  1. So you are saying South Africa was better off under Apartheid rule? And this never happened when the Afrikaaners were in power? Is that what you really wanted to say? What's happening there is happening in all 2nd world powers (Brazil, India, Russia, China) it's just that you dont hear about it as often. The Ayeeyo getting beat up in that video is sad, but i guess that's how they deal with TUUGNIMO there. Each to their own.
  2. Hal qof keliya aa waxaano dhan loo suubinooyaa miyaa?
  3. Hadii la'oron lahaa, kaas qofkii soo qabto $100k oo lacag ah ayaa lasiinaa, waxaan hubaa in mar hore meedkiisa ama lasoo qaban lahaa. Hal qof oo keliya ayaa magaalo dhan loo xiraa. Yaab.

If you are going to question other people's 'Somalinimo', the least you could do is write in Somali. At least people would have taken you seriously.
  6. Yep, that's the guy who blew himself up. It's him. But o'well, hada aakhiro ayuu joogaa, its' him and Allah now.

A civilian saw him running away from the explosion (like everyone else) and decided to chase and TACKLE him before turning him in to Boston police for "acting suspiciously." Several right-leaning media outlets then ran with the story of a "Saudi national" in custody as a "person of interest," but the BPD have said that's not true. That guy has some balls to tackle a complete stranger, just because he looked a little different from the rest. I hope he either press charges, or sues him for everything he got.
  8. Looks nice. I hope she achieves whateva she wants to accomplish.

He had apparently run for his life before being gunned down on someone's lawn and subsequently froze to death as it was -40C outside. It was probably the only time I smiled whilst learning of a person's death. No great loss.
  10. No, its never right to celebrate anyone's death.

My days of too much internet time is gone. These days it is about academia, research and business. I could be sitting in front of the computer all day and not check email or social networking sites. I tell you too much internet and electronics in our life these days. I did turn off my cell for four days straight about a month ago and walaahi it felt so liberating. It was not fun for family and friends tho. I liked leaving the phone home and not worrying at all. If you gonna try, one downside there is, you get home tired and only to find out you gotta go back because so and so is in the hospital or stuck somewhere. Jacpher, very nice sxb. It's good to see someone who isn't so easily distracted and can focus. I sometimes promise myself i would spend 30 minutes browsing, and get right back to work. But one thing leads to another (Youtube, Wikipedia, News, Forums, random things) and i realize 3hrs have passed doing nothing but looking at stuff.
  12. Ok how about the kids (teenagers, adolescence) who grew up with the Internet as being part of their life and have taken it for granted? Anyone think this is the most affected group? When i was growing up, we had to go outside and play with other kids, hang out, socialize, and everything else. The kids that are growing up now, and i see alot of them in Minnesota are lacking all those things. You have a whole generation coming up right now that don't have the values we grew up. And it's scary.

The down side is the struggle to ensuring you are not wasting your time online as opposed to working for the here after as stoic mentions. That's true sxb. But it also has brought the evilness and Xaasidnimo out of some people. You'd read some things on the Internet that you know no one would have the balls to say it to someone else's face. Take for example Siyaasad(Politics). LoL before the Internet, people shared their views/ideas in a peaceful, respectful manner, but now it's totally different ball game.

Its all how you want to use Very good points STOIC. As for impersonating and people pretending to be things they aren't, do you see that as a problem? The Internet allows you to build a whole self around something that isn't true. I did that myself in my early day's of discovering the Internet, and this new self started to cross over into my real life. LoL, the line started to blur between 'Internetka iyo Nolosha caadiga ah.

Runtaa, but in the same token, do you think it made people just a lot more lazier by depending on the Internet for everything? There is this 17yr old kid, aan adeer u ahay. He has the attention span of 4yr old kid. He can't disconnect from his laptop/cellphone long enuff to really think about things deeply. He'd give you really short answers to everything, and he's very abrupt about everything. Personally, i think it's doing a lot of harm to most of the younger generation.

  17. Google doesn't want you to worry about the afterlife -- or at least what's left of your digital assets once you're gone. Google's new "Inactive Account Manager" feature lets the user choose what to do with his/her data if the account is not used for a long period of time. Announced in a blog post Thursday, the feature is targeted at people who want to create an automated digital will, however, the service could also be useful in less morbid situations -- when a user can no longer access her account, for example. (What if you plan to go on a lengthy expedition outside Wi-Fi range and need to put your Gmail on pause?) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/11/google-inactive-account-manager-plan-death_n_3063577.html

He was born in Toronto, but Nayroobi loogu waday in uu diinta iyo tacliinta aasaaska ah kusoo barto. He was shot purely because of his Soomaaliness and just as at this thread indicated. They asked him if he lived in that 'neighbourhood.' Haa ayuu yiri, they started shooting, fifteen shots fired overall. They would have shot any Soomaali, boy or a man, ay arkaan that night, because dad aargudasho wato ayee ahaayeen. Allaha u fududeeyo, wiilkaas. With all due respect to the Admin and Libaax, it all started when advertisements(ads) started appearing on SoL few years back. The more people that see these ads, the more money the site makes. So more people were allowed to join and become Nomads, and this is why the quality of the site has been going down. The best thing to do now is to report individuals to the mods and to use your ignore list.

And how do educated, working women lead to the collapse of our communities? If anything, Somali women are pulling way ahead of men in academics. They are also more likely to hold down a stable job with higher income. I was at this community college few weeks ago looking to enroll in classes, and I think i counted at least 5 young Somali girls and maybe 1 Somali guy. The gender roles are being redrawn and wouldn't surprise me if women start bossing around men in the near future.
