Why Taliban wants to compare itself as opposed to ethiopia? Why can't you folks accept the fact that the problems are in the Somali family. Why do you call each other with foreign names? Are you hiding something? Be it ethiopian, egyptian, djibuti or kenya, cannot do anything in somalia, unless there is something already there. You better recognize this truth and face it. The last I expected to see from people who tell us they are holy is deception and untruths. Taliban, Can you answer something honestlly? here is the question: Are you ICU supporters going now, darn why did ICU recognize the TFG, we could have gone through the whole somalia in one full scoop? The people of Mugadishu would not have asked about government. We were afarid of nothing. we should never have recognized the government. Look now Bay and Bakool and even that not completely as seat of the government has more clout in somalia than we do with all our force, oromo and eritrea help and above all we are people of the book. Is there any truth to the above? Has it ever crossed your mind? Now let me be very generous to you and give you, your choice that ICU will fight Tigray (something that is being propagated in Mugadishu as some kind of super power, where as Tigray is the poorest state in ethiopia only second to Afar). Do you know where Tigray is? Has "colonel" Aweye hidden this secret from you? You have to cross 6-7 million Somalis, 3-4 million Afar lands to get to Tigray. I am sure "people of the book" in Mugadishu can fly over all these "non-moslems" easily.lol

I expect a few villages and if ICU runs out of villages, a few hamlets to compete in the news with the New York Stock Exchange for few minutes. ICU will keep announcing that they have captured this or that hamlet inside the territory they now control. The minute they stop manufacturing this type of news, they are done. They cannot susteain a day without talking about war, some militia of a village or some hamlet (some probably that do not exist, as the eritreans were known to do). They will even recapture their own technicals.lol The Eritrean websites and radio in 2000 were broadcasting all kinds of victories until it came time, Isayas had to call Koffi Annan at 2:00AM, call President Clinton early in the morning to stop the Ethiopians. Then they have to sign almost a third of thir country (25km deep by 1000km border) to UN and never to enter that part of their country armed. Then it was like a balloon emptied of air in no time. The shock has not left eritreans to this date, while ethiopia dicommissioned most of its army, paid by UN and has moved on to something else, development. ICU will do the same as the Arabs used to do in the middle east wars. Lots of victories and capturing israelis until it came time to exchange prsoners and it was like 1 for 2-3 thousand with egypt. The TFG can afford to just defend itself. The ICU will get frustrated and attack, because what the ICU is expecting is for Puntland to get angry and cross outside its friendly territories in centaral somalia and for ethiopia to get angry and cross the border. Both will not happen and ICU has to make the move. From there its anyone's guess. The President of Yemen will be called at some inconvenient hours. He is the only one now left that is willing to try everything to stop the unnecessary bloodshed being pushed and called by ICU.

Those who consider ethiopians and somali as enemies forget one very important truth. Its only the somali that is made by his creator. Somalia is a man made country as all countries are. So is ethiopia another man made country.

Ethiopia, Djibouti sign 20 year port agreement Ethiopia and Djibouti on November 18, 2006 signed a multi-modal transport agreement which enables the effective utilization of the port of Djibouti for the coming 20 years and a door-to-door cargo transit between the two countries. According to the agreement, on which the House of Peoples' Representatives deliberated this Tuesday, L' Association des Transistors de Djibouti, of which the Maritime Transit Services of Ethiopia (MTSE) is a member, would be the only interlocutor of the carrier (which includes the Ethiopian Shipping Lines), for clearing and forwarding activities at the port of Djibouti. The agreement gives to the Ethiopian Shipping Lines (ESL) the right to appoint and select an inland transport operator through open bid competition and designates it or any other subcontracted shipping company as carrier for Ethiopian import cargo. It also allows for importers and exporters to enter into a multimodal transport contract for the afreightment of their shipment in conformity with the modalities the agreement itself provides for. The agreement requires the two countries to establish and harmonize a strict regulatory framework as well as procedures for an effective implementation of the multimodal transport system. The agreement states that the Djibouti Port Authority may allocate loading and unloading area for cargo and would use an electronic data exchange service in order to ensure an efficient communication according to the agreement. It further provides that both Ethiopia and Djibouti will apply the Customs Transit Protocol and implement the COMESA Single Administrative Document for customs transit declaration. The agreement also stipulates that both parties will establish a comprehensive directive which governs liability of trucking companies. For the purpose of following up on the execution of the agreement a joint technical committee consisting of seven members from the two countries would be established. Disputes or differences that may arise in connection with the agreement will be resolved through negotiation at the level of a Joint Technical Follow-up Committee. A final and binding decision will be given through arbitration if negotiation fails. Unless either of the contracting parties notifies the other in writing of the intention to terminate the agreement 3 months prior to its expiry date, it will be extended for an additional period of 20 years. Both countries have the right to terminate the agreement before the expiry date. However, the provisions of the agreement will continue to apply to contracts concluded during the period of its validity but not fully executed on the date of its termination. By Yohannes Anberbir -
The friends and loyalists of mass murderer Mengistu Haile MariamThe friends and loyalists of mass murder Mengistu Haile Mariam Are the mass murderer's men on the move again? Radio Jigjiga Editorial 09 September 2006 One of the most important forgotten historical facts was, the so called triangle agreement between three anti the late Siyad Barre regime of Somalia, held in Diredaba 1989, oversaw by mass murderer Mengistu Haile Mariam. The Leaders, General Aidid, Abdurahman Tuur, and colonel Omar Jees, were so delighted for making a mass murderer Mariam super criminal king pin of the horn of Africa. In that conspiratorial agreement was designed to cause a great damage, suffering and pain to some people, mainly Somalis in the Republic. The Al-Itihad group believes that they are making Somalis Muslims Deeply down in that criminal showbiz were also some side kickers, and floor dancers, Sheikh Aweys, an army colonel in the Al-Itihad destroyed late Somali Army, and his top lieutenants in the current top leadership of the ICU, were part of it, were they willfully wanted, and sacrificially desired the dark destruction of Somali people, and their land from bottom to top! A short time of period the Somali society was completely destroyed, perpetrated by that dark coalition lead, and brained by Mengistu. At least most of us know who paid in blood for that evil plan of ruining, and killing off the Somalis. The innocent Somali people were only victims of this Hitler, and Mussolini minded genocidal killings! Mass murderer Hitler Sheikh Aweys become top leader of the Al-Itihad organization in Somalia we’ve just read how the last plan had ended, now let us see how the other plan from Sheikh Aweys, and his lieutenants’ might take to us. Mass murderer MussoliniThe Al-Itihad group believes that they are making Somalis to be good Muslims. “This is stranger than fiction” We all thought the Somalis were sincerely Muslims? Yes they are, sow why Al-Itihad group claims that lie to be their mission? Claiming that ridiculous notion is only one of that group’s covert operation, this group does not interested in religion, or making Somalis to be good Muslims, in a peaceful way. But they are merely trying to use the Somali people for their planned overtake of horn of Africa, and its natural resources, perhaps to serve it to their political, and financial backers in Arabian peninsula.Mogadishu residents seek refuge in a primary school in Somalia's war ravaged capital What had happened in Mogadishu areas about last several months are good example of this, were they simply kicked off the weak war lords, and kept the powerful ones such as Indho-ade, and even made him as one of their top militia commanders?Destroyed city of Mogadishu How do they achieve of that deception plan? By taking advantage, mix it with terrorism again, and again of oppressed, and helpless Somalis in Mogadishu areas, were they appeared to the public in first time as saviors, but that was not true, and they were not saviors at all. But deception was their rule of the day! In a short time of overtaking Mogadishu areas, their true face came to the light, when they started attacking to the other peaceful regions, such as a Somali autonomous state of Puntland. Finally a mass murdering, genocidal war, and totally bleak future for the rest of the people in this region is Al-Itihad's ultimate destination. For any one (s) who still might not convince yet, you just wait for your own peril!

BiLaaL_07, I would like to say thank you for the way you discuss your points. Then you felt that I didn't provide any links or reference to some of the points, so at this time thats what I will do. As for ICU changing their tunes, You and I don't have to go search for the past, just in the nick of time, you can read from the discussions ICU had in Yemen. I don't know what you think of the agreement between Shiek Ahmed and Shiek Sherif, wether it has any significance or not, but what they discussed with Yemen is relevant to the point. spot on. Here is the link for the Press release http://www.somaliaonline.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=007903 As for WSLF decisions in 1984. I give you the link here under, but please realize that the Federal system in ethiopia today is an idea formulated and promoted by WSLF including the Regional states and governments. Afar and Tigray were just enthusiastic supporters of the idea. It was also noted in the ethiopian parliament debate as to the validity of this. Here is the link that will show you clearly why in 1984 the somali chose what happened and implemented since then in ethiopia. http://countrystudies.us/somalia/27.htm Is ONLF only a name changed WSLF? I think you said yes for this, correct me if I am wrong. It cannot be further from the truth. I give you one small example instead of giving you what I think is the reality and why. I provide you this link just in case you can pick up the Somali spoken in it, some of it is clear, or if you understand the ethiopian language Amharic. Its an interview done last month with one ONLF CC member and another a commander that reconciled with the Somali State government and came home to continue their struggle peacefully and politically. I don't have this link for now. sorry. Instead read this link which will give you the relationship of ONLF to the Somali Ethiopian. http://www.******.com/******_Leadership.htm -
Namrud Berhane A court verdict here that former dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam was guilty of genocide has sparked debates in Zimbabwe regarding his extradition. Mengistu was tried in absentia. Zimbabwe's main opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), on Thursday said that Mengistu should be extradited so that he faces his conviction. A spokesperson for the party is reported to have said that the average Zimbabwean considered the dictator as an "unwelcome guest." Some allege that Mengistu helps Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe as a security advisor. These allegations however are not confirmed. "The days in which dictators would consort in a boys' club and luxuriously look after themselves are over," said Nelson Chamisa in a statement. "Mr. Mengistu may be safe in Harare for now, but for how long?" The government of Zimbabwe however dismissed such calls. Acting information and publicity minister, Paul Mangwana told reporters his country stood firmly by its position not to extradite Mengistu. "Mengistu applied for asylum and we granted him ... the position remains the same," Mangwana said. "We have no control over the judiciary process in other countries, but we are also a sovereign state and as I am talking now, that position we made has not changed." Following that statement a cleric in the country criticized the government for harboring "a dictator who killed millions of people." Pius Ncube, archbishop of Zimbabwe's second city Bulawayo, who is said to be an arch foe of the president, told a press conference that the government was misusing taxpayers' money "Mengistu allowed one million people to die by refusing to let western humanitarian workers to come in and help fight starvation. He did it to save the government's face," Ncube said. This week, the Federal High Court passed a verdict in a 12 year trial that 57 former Derg officials were guilty of genocide. One defendant, Corporal Gashaw Gurmesa was acquitted. Meanwhile, Mengistu has reportedly abandoned his Harare home and is now living near the Zambian border. Mengistu has reportedly been living out of the capital since July. An intelligence source is quoted by Newzimbabwe.com as saying: "Mengistu left Harare some time in July. He is living at a private residence in Kariba. The move is a security measure. Once in a while he visits Harare as he has acquired a stake in a local wholesale company which is based in the capital," said the source.

He did not die by the Al-Ithad assassination attempt when he was minister of Transport and communication. He died last year after illness. He served as UN permanent representative of Ethiopia for a long time until his passing. His widow is now member of the federal parliament of ethiopia. Yes all of them Al-Ithad, Isayas for being made irrelevant at UN, ONLF hated him, but they were incapabale to do anything to him. You are of course just saying something that has no relevance to Dr. AbdulMajid. -
4. The two sides reaffirm non-interference in the internal affairs of Somalia by any Governments of the Region or anyone else, to respect the borders between Somalia and its neighbors, to start dialogue between the neighbor countries, removing any mistrust and to strengthen the principal of good neighborness and peaceful co-existence. Anyone in Mugadishu, aspiring to be the next ruler says it when they find themselves in tight spot. As usual Kenya will be the first one to recognized, then after some bargain will be ethiopia. I don't see the word Jihad on ethiopia anymore in any ICU talk or statement. Jihad will be the first casualty from the hollier than thou Mugadishu gang called ICU. We ethiopians told them that Jihad call is not something to be taken lightly, it seems they got the message. I think a Somali ethiopian put it long ago something to this effect: If Ethiopia told Hassan Tahir that they will recognize him, he would be the first one to kick ONLF or anyone else out of Mugadishu.

Its about time ICU accept the reality that, ICU need to talk to TFG if they want to talk. This empty threats, invitation for negotiation with ethiopia is going to get them no where. Ethiopia can oly talk to a government of Somalia, and since ICU is not the government of Mugadishu, let alone Somalia, asking Yemen to get them to talk to ethiopia is meaningless. Yemen must have told the ICU that it will not even talk to President Abdullahi Yusuf, for what they are asking.

Caamir, What I find typical of the "philosophers" and analysts, debators in both our countries is that they completely ignore unpleasant incidents that were so critical in the development of current circumstances. Greater Somalia failed so far to materialize in 1943. The rest was just an excercise with mistaken strategies and brought untold suffering, particulary to the Somali Ethiopian. I quote here part of an SOL thread on the subject in the Camel Milk Debate: The tiny village of Walwaal, however, was destined to play a more important role in Somali history. In 1943, the then British foreign secretary, Lord Bevin, came up with the brilliant idea of uniting all Somali territories. He argued at the then League of Nations that as a homogeneous, pastoralist Muslims, the interest of the Somali people could not in all fairness be served if they shared state with neighboring Christians. He therefore proposed a greater Somali territory under British rule until such time it was ready for independence. Consequently, Somali clan leaders from British Somaliland, the Ogad*n region, the former Italian Somaliland and the Northern Frontier District of Kenya colony (NFD) were invited and attended a meeting in Walwaal under the auspices of Britain to discuss the Bevin plan. Sadly, however, Somali clan elders at the time could not understand the importance of the plan which they only looked at from the perspective of rival clan politics and rejected it. http://www.somaliaonline.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=000752 Purposely ignoring or wanting it to go away doesn't help anyone. Our Intellectuals seem to do this all the time. I do not want to bring other issues, but our ethiopian so called intellectuals are even twice dishonest and diengenious in hiding critical incidents that shaped today's ethiopia. Our Ethiopian or "ethiopia the great" people will go to any length to tell us that the different peoples should not govern thmeselves, federalsim will break the country...yada yada...but they will not mention atrocities, injustice, discrimination, supression...that gave birth to Federalism. I see the same thing happening with analysts and intellectuals discussing greater somalia. The Walwal conference is what ended or dramatically changed the greater somalia dream or project. Anyone who ignores this incident would be disengenious.

Now you don't need any other indicators to know that the eritrean dictator is in deep trouble and wildly swinging from one place to another in desperado. Somalis know this situation better than any other country. When dictators start doing this set your clock for the count down. Diplomatic trips and moves that do not have any historical, heritage and cultural or trade and economical basis are wild swings of desperate man. He will go to Riyadh next week and explain exactly what he is doing, otherwise expect the Saudi to give him his final kick to the bin. They can do it better than anyone except ethiopia. If this man had any dignity, the test was Sudan. The Sudanese had hosted close to a million eritreans and ethiopians for years. Only the ethiopians had the tamarity to say thank you. Isayas on the contrary tormented the Sudanese in the service of the US, which the ethiopians refused to do against Sudan.

ICU, Mengistu Isayas have new african country - Tigray
Somali_Friend replied to Somali_Friend's topic in Politics
BiLaaL_07, Thats a good question. Why I dislike the ICU is in deed a good question for a good discussion. In a nut shell it comes down to this. The ICU has been completely taken over by the supreme leader Hassan Tahir. Nothing, absolutely nothing can the ICU do now that is not in alignment with Hassan Tahir and his organization. The courts that constituted the Union in the beginning or Sheik Ahmed whom they use for public relations is just that, all have been now controlled by organization/s under Hassan Tahir. First let me dispel the notion that Hassan Tahir is working on the greater Somalia dream. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hassan Tahir would change his tune if Kenya now offers to recognize his government (ready to be declared if they can find countries that will jump ship from TFG). You can take that to the bank. Before you jump to defend and declare, he would never do that, I ask you to go back and look what happened with the Barre regime and not a finger was raised in Mugadishu when Barre signed away with Kenya. He also signed away WSLF in exchange of Mengistu to do the same with organizations he may have looked the other way. Neither Mengistu controlled the Somali organizations from Somalia nor did Barre control the WSLF, but the fact is that Mugadishu is always eager to speak as representative of the Somali ethiopian and is also eager to bargain the somali ethiopian when it is in a tight spot. Secondly, Hassan Tahir has done more destructive acts against WSLF and is most disliked for this reason. WSLF decided to do the following in 1984: 1. suspend military operations, because the somali was in so much difficulty where his very survival was in question. One cannot continue simply fighting for the sake of it while the situation of the people is not sustainable. It can lead to civil war where the ethiopian government of the day would take advantage. 2. Mugadishu involvement has always been negative to the Somali. First of all there is the legal question. An independent country somalia speaking of lands in another independent country ethiopia, legaly means aggression and no country, even arab countries can support it. Egypt was the one that pushed for the colonial border agreement for the purpose of Sudan. The struggle of the Somali ethiopian is a struggle for self determination. Period. 3. If a federal system can be set up in ethiopia, the Somali will set up self government and build all the structures of a self governing peoples and land, so has a self standing government, institutions, police, militia as a state and participate in the ethiopian federation. In 1991 the somali along with other ethiopians succeeded in defeating the ethiopian government and all the above 3 points have been successful. Now its time to develop what has been established, some of it is only on baby steps. So since you seem to be of the conviction that Hassan Tahir works very hard for greater somalia, I just showed to you that on the contrary he works against it, as far as the Somali ethiopians are concerned. Greater somalia from this point on can only be realized if every part of it is first confident on themselves, have institutions and strength to earn the consideration of their fellow somali in other parts. Notice that I did not mention about Al-Ithad and its fight with WSLF and other Somali organizations. I did not mention anything that the person of Hassan Tahir may have played in Somali Regional State negative or positive. Lets deal point by point. I think this one issue is enough for this post and I wait what you have to say on it. -

Mr. Red Sea, I don't think that is an argument we can have on the internet. In case you are like the ICU, trying to paint a different image of ethiopians than the reality on the ground here are a few facts for you: 1. There are between 40-50 million Moslems in Ethiopia 2. Moslems have lived in that part of the world for all the 1500 years and more 3. There are more Somali in Ethiopia than there are in Djibuti, Somaliland, Puntland all put together. You can do all your holier than thou somewhere else. If AminArts got under your skin, he seems to do it better than anyone else, you are not alone. He does more against ethiopia than any other country, but it comes with the territory. We are neighbors for more distance than any other. We share 6-7 million people. Here is what AminArts thinks describes the Jihad call of ICU. http://www.aminarts.com/ad2.htm -

Presumably, you've visited these ICU held areas post June of 2006. What exactly is an Ethiopian like yourself doing in ICU held areas? Let it be clear to all that the reason this filty missionary posts derogatory threads against the ICU is because they've made he's work almost impossible to do; and will in time, inshallah, make all missionary efforts disappear from all Somali territories. What was that all about? Yes I have met Somalis from ICU held or if according to some occupied lands. Is that so scary to you? Yes I am an ethiopian. I think you need to do some investigation. Tigray land mass is probably less than 10% of ethiopia and population wise Tigray is less than 7% of ethiopia. There are also more moslems in ethiopia than many countries that are called Islamic countries. There is more Somali in ethiopia than there is in Djibuti, Somaliland and Puntland all put together. Islam and Moslems have lived in east africa since the beginning and the place known for it as Negash is now a province in none other than the state of Tigray. These are just some very elementary info for your benefit. Just in case you follow ICU propaganda of deception about ethiopians. -

Restrict yourself to the pictures on this thread. Thats what I compared. Lets not go to worlds end to bring something else. But be honest to yourselves and put yourself as you never knew the people that are shown in these pictures above and Tigray people pictures that you can find in many sites. -

What’s new to that part of the world is not, “I’m more Muslim that you.” That has existed for many years. What’s new is a pre-emptive strike on a sovereignty nation. Jimcaale, I think its fair to say that east africans have done more fighting than many other parts of the world, probably due to the location of the place. On top of that as we are poor, we also fight for the small things, like pastoralists fighting for one water well instead of digging more. The energy that takes to dig another well is much less than the fighting and revenge killings etc that we seem to do. But the people never used and abused Islam as its being done in Mugadishu these days. I am advocating for the eradication of this foreign culture that is most unIslamic, but being propagated as Islam. There is a difference. Since we became countries in the modern meaning also have fought for hills or rivers or in the service of foreign countries, but the only reason you have 1500 years of Islam in the area is precisely for the reason that moslems followed their religion as it came down and not modified it to suite their current economic or power needs like ICU is doing.

We still call them ethiopians. We don't call them by the Hassan Tahir clan name. If you want to call every somali who prefers to live by good neighbor policies with ethiopia as an ethiopian, I guarantee you, you are calling the absolute majority of somali as ethiopians. Thank you for that, but soon you will realize wether you call them ethiopian or Tigray or Haabashi your somali problems are not going away. My advice is face your somali brothers and see what you can do without the accusations and counter accusations of naming each other with foreign names.
