Heavy fighting starts in Mudug; Bandiiradley area.

The president of Eritrea calling for emergency meeting not Arab league, not UN, but IGAD makes me suspicious that ethiopia is going to attack him. He also called for IGAD to do the peace talks instead of Sudan and Arab league. Two weeks ago he was calling IGAD an ethiopian collection. Qeybdiid overstay in Mugadishu may have been more deadly to ICU than the battles he waged. -
I hate pictures like this. It reminds me what Mengistu did in Addis Ababa in 1991. The kids like the ones on the Toyota there were all relatives of the Mengistu officials. Not a single one of them went to the fronts to Harar side or North of Addis Ababa. All those kids are now in America. The poor kids that were sent to the front were also somehow fortunate. The fighters purposely avoided them and went only on targets where the soldiers were. I don't know if "colonel" Aweye is sending his kids or grand kids to the front, but in ethiopia not a single one of the agitators and show off "soldiers" ever saw any action.

Ceasefire and IGAD to enter to separate TFG ICU forces

Either you are not an Oromo or you are embarassment to them just like the provincialists 40 year old OLF. Please don't use religion for fake and deception. what do you think? For that to happen: ICU has to vacate every village from Bay and Bakool state ICU and TFG have to agree on the countries that will be positioned in a 10km each demilitarized zone TFG has to get Agreement from the two established states of Puntland and Bay&Bakool that its not accepting ICU as equal, but only as holding Mugadishu and area. etx.

I am sure a man of that kind has a lot more to answer for making so many children orphaned, thats is those children that escaped his terrorist attacks on innocent people. -

I don't want to go into percentages, which neither you or I can be sure of, but I can give you the lay of the land in ethiopia and somalia, something you cannot refute. 1. There are 6-7 million somalis in ethiopia 2. There are 3-4 million somalis in Somaliland 3. There are less than .5 million somalis in Djibuti 4. There are ....million somali in Puntland (i will let you put the numbers) All these populations have had elections. Some of them better than others, but that is trivial to what we are talking. Remember I did not mention Central somalia, Bay& Bakool, Gedos or other places in the south. Those who have had elections have all indicated one thing. They want to live the way they are and self governing. Thats something no one can deny. -

me, congradulations. You have now graduated to be friends with those ethiopians who are committed to bring back the old regimes and systems. I can only repeat to you again. If that makes you happy and smiling. enjoy it. Wether ethiopia is dead or alive will not make an iota of difference in your clan wars. Wether you try to hide it behind religion, nationalism, greater somalia..etc most somalis have seen the fakery. They are not buying it. We ethiopians first ask the somali as to why they are not buying it. So we don't buy it too. -

Your problems the problems of part of your country the southern part will still be there when you stop laughing about me. It will be a fast and strong fraun. Why don't you try to answer what the ICU wants for Somalia? 1. Do they want to eliminate the TFG, Governemnts of Somaliland and Puntland and make one unitary government under the supreme leader? 2. Do they want to eliminate the government from the south and then represent all the south and negotiate with the northern states? 3. Do they want to keep the TFG, but the ICU decides and chooses every post in the government? You owe it to yourself and your conscience to answer the question clearly. That is exactly what Yemen asked ICU. They could or did not want to answer. Yemen then told them, there is no way Yemen can help in any negotiation unless you tell us clearly what your intentions are for Somalia.

Why the United States Should Recognize Somaliland’s Independence

There is no reason for me to be desperate. Leaving aside wether I am Habesha or not, I am at home and so far the solution ethiopians have chosen is working. We have never had this much peace in many centuries. If you refuse to accept facts on the ground, because it was presented to you, by what you think is a Haabesha, its your choice. Desperation is when one brings Jihad where it is least legitimate. Desperation is when one tells untruth in the faint hope that the people will buy the fakery and will rise up. Desperation is when one uses the name of Allah(SWT) and the next minute has to announce untruth (I don't want to use the right word)about capturing and beheading a Colonel. Thats desperation. -
Why the United States Should Recognize Somaliland’s Independence
Somali_Friend replied to Jaylaani's topic in Politics
For those Somalis who do not want to see a country named Somaliland, but want ICU to take over the country of somalia, be aware of what you are getting into. Unless you are doing this from greed or some other purpose the quickest way for Somalia to come apart is supporting ICU and wishing that ICU will keep the old somalia by force as one country. There are at least 10 african countries that would recognize Somaliland in a heart beat. Ethiopia will be the last country in Africa to do so. Eritrea will be among the first 20 countries to recognize somaliland, because it will affect Djibuti and mainly the Afar issue. Afar lands in eritrea is a third of the country landmass. If ICU takes over south somalia, its not a question of Somaliland only. You need to consider other regions too. You can end up being Yugoslavia. Don't buy the reason that you are one ethnic, you speak same language and that will keep you together. That by itself is never enough of a reason. The people to people interaction between the Tigray ethiopia and Tigray eritrea is actually much closer than some somali clans from different territories. Ethiopia was in the same boat in 1991. Autonomous rule is the only reason that saved it from total disentegration. Beleive it or not, the regional autonomy solution came from a somali organization, WSLF. -
History Is Repeating It Self Right in Front of our Eyes!

Originally posted by raadamiir: History is repeating itself. Aweys lost to Abdilahi Yusuf during the Al-itihad wars in Gedo regeions Puntland , Aways has a bone to pick with Abdilahi Yusuf. Now Aways has the blessings of all his tribesmen and some ethiopians Somalians folks. At this point even some somali ethiopian support for Hassan Tahir is not true for so many obvious reasons. 1. ONLF has issued a statement to the effect that they will not participate in clan wars in south somalia. The reson for ONLF is that they will lose support even the little support they have if they line up with ICU. 2. Hassan Tahir is probably the most disliked (I don't want to use hate ord) among somali ethiopians. He was in the group of people that befriendied Mengistu when they needed help in the somalia clan wars of the past. 3. Even the Ethiopian government takes ONLF on their word that they are not party to any clan wars in southern somalia. There are only 2 ethiopian organizations on ICU side. They both are not Somali. One is an Oromo organization that has no hope of gaining majority support among the Oromo. Its 40 year old organization now reduced to a one small province or in somali speak sub clan. The other one is the Mengistu and Haileslassie boys who are against the federal system. Both of them are based in eritrea, but eritrea will not allow a fly to cross to ethiopia from its 1000km border. They know what comes, so eritrea is working from southern somalia side. -

A country that has mastered hipocrisy. A country that refused to accept Palestinian refugees at the height of war, but is willing to declare Al-Umma Al Arabia 24 hours in its media. A country that lives on 2.2 billion dollar Jewish money, but doesn't want anyone to make peace to build their shunty homes. What for do you want the Somali to fight right now? Shouldn't you have the sincerity to tell them one of this: 1. ICU has to be the government for all somalia 2. ICU should have 2.5 or 3.5 of the federal share of power 3. ICU should represent the clan instead of those in TFG what ever your choice is tell the people. Wether man or Allah(SWT) don't accept to be told, I will tell you when I win, now just STFU and fight for me. Thats dishonesty. Forget ethiopia for now, forget Puntland or Somaliland for now, deal with the south of the country, how to bring order and then sit and talk with the rest of Somali.

Originally posted by Baashi: Alla ya cizak my man Brown. Now we are talkin. Forumku haduu forum u qalmaa. IWHY is Meles putting so MUCH money,TIME,Weapons on a somali faction that doesnt have much support from a majority of somalis? Excellent. The reason is because Somalia and Ethiopia has unsettled dispute over a large swath of what is now Ethiopia. He has his deamon to deal with in his domestic affairs. Oromos and Somalis reside eastern regions of Ethiopia. He knows Somalis deep down and he was qouted saying that the demise of Ethiopia as federal poluralistic state is in the hands of the post-conflict government in Somalia. Abdullahi believes that Zanawi has fulfulled a key precondition. His responded a concern along those lines put to him when he visited to New York by fellow clan members OG that they should read the Ethiopian constitution. He said the right to secession has been granted to kilinka shanaad. There is some truth to that but his ignorence of the details of the Ethiopian constitution is amazing especially a man who wishes to be a statesmen. Constitution requires 2/3 of national vote in the parliament - an impossibility for Somalis to pass a resolution to their desired destiny in this parliament. Needless to say, Melez wants to male sure that any post-conflict Somali government is "friendly" to Ethiopia. Baashi, Corrections on the ethiopian constitution: 1. 2/3 vote is among Somali ethiopians not all of ethiopia. An Oromo or a Tigray have no vote in Somali affairs. The condition is that if 2/3 of Somali vote to seceed from ethiopia its their call. 2. I think President Abdullahi Yusuf read something you missed. This article in the ethiopian constitution and the Federal system is a Somali idea proposed by WSLF in 1984. Afar and Tigray were the first ones to respond positively and supported it. You can confirm this with ONLF. ONLF has never rejected the constitution, because its base supports it and if ONLF rejects the constitution it knows it is gone. 3. Somaliland also has the same reading of the situation. They know that its the wish of the majority of Somali ethiopians to give ethiopia a try. If it works they will be full participants and if it fails they have the exit already instituted. 4. Mugadishu would be the first to accept this, if AbdulKassim TNG had friendly relations with ethiopia as did President Barre in his last days. The border is not demarcated, but if there are friendly governments its easy to demarcate. The people in the supposed border areas at this time are friendly to each other. A lot of friendship has been established in the last 16 years among ethiopians and Somalis in Somalia. Historically this issue is not being addressed genuinly and sincerely from Mugadishu. Its only brought as a card when ethiopia and egypt are in some conflict on the waters. Walwal conference is the key. In that conference Somali from all corners gathered to form a greater somalia did not agree. Call it power struggle or something else, but one needs to recognize that so far for every Somali ethiopian who wants greater somalia, there are two that do not like the idea.

Clan Courts forcing children to fight + other news
Somali_Friend replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Remembering 1991 in Ethiopia when the fascist and fanatical regime of mengistu sent 10,000 students to the front near Addis Ababa, while he was escaping to Zimbabwe, one can't help, but feel sad for the people under ICU areas. I am not a military person, but I can visualize myself being victimized by some greedy power fanatic in Mugadishu as the case was in Addis Ababa. ZANZIBAR, Tanzania, Dec. 21 — The transitional government of Somalia, which for several months had been rapidly losing territory to Somalia’s growing Islamist movement, claimed victory on Thursday in the first major confrontation between the sides. “We have overrun their troops,” said Abdirizak Adam Hassan, chief of staff for the transitional president, Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed. United Nations officials confirmed heavy Islamist casualties in the fighting, which began Wednesday and continued Thursday. The Islamist fighters — many of them lightly armed teenage boys, the officials said — were mowed down by transitional government soldiers backed by the Ethiopian Army, the most powerful military in the region. “The Islamists attacked, they retreated and then they made the mistake of running into an open field,” a United Nations official said on the condition of anonymity. “After that, it was one shot, one kill.” United Nations officials estimated that dozens of Islamists had died. The Islamists denied suffering humiliating defeats. On Thursday, the Islamist clerics who rule Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, ordered schools closed so more children could be sent to the front lines. ..................... Mohammed Ibrahim contributed reporting from Mogadishu, Somalia. -
Friends, Ethiopia has a very big population, but you can check any reference you like and you will find that Ethiopia has 1/3 the army of Eritrea. Ethiopia is a poor country, its budget is public, its audited and is open to any institution that loans and gifts ethiopia. Ethiopia spends about 3% of its GDP on defence, thats about 130 million dollars. There is no conscription. The army is all voluntary and paid army. Eritrea spends 160 million a year and has 300,000 conscripted young and old 17-50. If one escapes his parents pay 50,000 or they are in jail. These Shieks in Mugadishu seem to place thousands of Ethiopian soldiers in every village in southern somalia. Plus ethiopia is in Puntland. Plus ethiopia is in Somaliland. Plus ethiopia is at 1000km border with eritrea.Plus ethiopia is fighting OLF and ONLF regardless of their size or impact. This is getting a bit over the top. When it comes from a Shiek, its even way way over the top. Let alone someone calling themselves a shiek, even a group of friends chewing khat would not stand for this untruth. ______________________________________________ Somalia: ICU says scores of Ethiopian soldiers killed in the fighting Thu. December 21, 2006 12:10 pm. Mohamed Abdi Farah Sheik Shukri (SomaliNet) Authorities of Islamic Courts Union in Somalia capital Mogadishu claimed on Thursday that its fighters had gained victories over the latest skirmishes with the Ethiopian forces near Baidoa city, the base of thetransitional federal government. In a news conference held around 5:00 pm local time in the ex-villa Baidoa (Presidential residence in Mogadishu) which is now headquarter for the ICU, the officials said they had subjected causalities to what they called ‘The Ethiopian invaders’ in the clashes in Daynunay and Idale areas close to Baidoa, the seat of TFG in southwest of Somalia. Sheik Ibrahim Shukri known as ‘Abu-Zainab’ the ICU spokesman for Juba regions in southern Somalia but currently chosen to be the Islamist spokesman for the war issues, said its combatants have killed 203 soldiers of Ethiopian troops and wounded other more in the latest battles near Baidoa 240km southwest of Somalia. “We also have confiscated four armed vehicles mounted with anti aircraft guns and all the rival fighting forces were the Ethiopian commandos and there were no government forces,” Sheik Shukri said in the press conference. On their side, Sheik Shukri said 20 fighters martyred and 60 others were wounded in the fighting. “We really don’t see it as loss but we see it as victory and all the martyrs will go to paradise,” he said. The Islamist leader confirmed that its forces regained Idale environ and now fighting 5kms beyond that area, advancing towards Baidoa after heavy clashes. In Daynunay area, there was no heavier battle but just it was sporadic fire exchanging artillery shells, the statement said. Sheik Shurki denied that any Islamist fighters were captured in the fighting which entered its second consecutive day.

Taliban, Unless the ICU makes eritreans and OLF (ONLF is out of this shenanigan)act as ethiopian soldiers, ICU has not killed or captured a single ethiopian. I don't know why ICU as propagandists and tellers of untruth cannot see this hurting the very very little credibility they have left. Telling untruth about ethiopia may be good for few minutes, but in the long run thats what makes even their fighters suspicious.
-
Taliban, I saw you the other day comparing ICU to HizbAllah. The only similarity is generally speaking they are both moslems depending on how deep the Shiia Sunni issue is (Its already started to be a problem in Sudan and Ethiopia with Iranian cultural centers and some villages in Sudan declaring they are Shiia). The Israeli media let alone other media had confidence that statemnets about battles made by HizbAllah were either the whole truth or closest to the truth. ICU of course is the opposite. Even their fans don't have confidence in their announcements. So many Fartaag incidents with Ethiopia.
