She's essentially publicly debasing what the hijab stands for - not that it's never been done before but it is still annoying.

Don't really care about the alleged 'affair'. Why is she using a hijab as an instrument of a clearly false modesty/demureness? That is annoying.

A lot of Kutiri-Kuteen that I am hearing. Folks on the ground - you guys have any more details? ~ At least some were below the age of 18 which caused the police to investigate the claims ~ An Indian travel agent who booked all the flights has been arrested ~ Said travel agent has given up another guy, a Somali, who paid for all the tickets and he's been arrested ~ One of those who was sent to Somalia came back and helped to expose the whole enchilada etc It's always amusing to me when folks send others' children to do what they wouldn't want for their children. Go figure.

Christians are trying to Christianize Somalis in North Kenya
ElPunto replied to Mad_Mullah's topic in Politics
Never fear! Folks have been trying for hundreds of years. Somalis even the ones who know little about Islam are too proud to condescend to change their religion to that of the contemptible 'gaalo'. -

^What? Is there a quota now for African Americans? They've got the top man so now Latinos, whites and Republicans need the affirmative action? Susan Rice is one of the brightest people on FP around - I hope she gets a high ranking position in this administration. Hadn't heard about a 3 am gaffe. I like Billy boy too - he would be a good pick. I thihk Obama could sew up the whole Latino vote for good by passing a sympathetic immigration bill now that Dems dominate.
-
Cadaan - my man - you still interested in a Somali wife? I mean how can you possibly deal with all that uncleanliness? I've been to Dixon many times. It's not really a ghetto - but that depends on your defintion. It's no American style ghetto but somewhat ghettoish for Canada. And while there is a general shabbiness about the place - I can't say I saw urine anywhere or that much trash anywhere. Let's face it - it is Toronto - you guys are not that well kempt! Come to Ottawa to see a very clean city.

^I get what both you and MMA are saying. But the fact is we are rather an unpopular consituency around the world. We are looked at with suspicion and even contempt by many in the western world. That's why it didn't surprise me when Obama wasn't quick to defend us although it did disappoint me. Let's face it though - Colin Powell wasn't running for American president - it is somewhat easier to espouse 'unpopular' positions. Personally - I have little doubt that Obama as a person is kindly disposed towards Muslims. But that doesn't mean he will enact our agenda. I think we have to keep things in perspective. Obama is an American and a Christian chosen by a largely Christian, pro-Israel electorate. It would be naive to think that Muslims who support him or voted for him actually expected American foreign policy to change to Muslim interests. First - American foreign policy is dictated by corporate interests and pro-Israel interests. And secondly - Muslims don't necessarily need a president who fulfills our agenda - just a president who thinks intelligently about using American might in the world in order to avoid catastrophes like Iraq. I firmly believe Obama is the 'least evil' of any American president since Carter.
-
I think Muslims need to remove the oppression that is self inflicted before they can even begin to tackle western oppression. Barring that - the criticism and cries of the like found in Imam Awlakis comment above are akin to pissing in the wind.

 @ SOS

^Yes it is. We reject unstable individuals like Che which is why you get the understandable bitterness. So Adam - are you planning a visit here - why all the love?

On the other hand they are arrogant and intolerant among themselves. This is how it was with Banu Israel when living under the Pharaoh. I am sorry to state this but unfortunately this attitude is been reflected by many American Muslims who humiliated themselves by voting for candidates who have no serious concern for their issues. I mentioned in my previous post: I disagree. And his opening paragraph reveals his flawed thinking. Muslims, unfortunately, are more oppressed and humiliated in their own countries which is why they come to a place like the States. You would think the Imam would know that better than anyone else. There is no doubt that American foreign policy is oppressive to Muslims in the Middle East but that is separate and distinct from individual Muslims' experiences in the States. You can't confuse the two issues and then expect to draw meaningful conclusions.

Go Cara! You the wo-man! I know you can bring the change we so desparately need on SOL! *angling for sycophant-in-chief* You take care of your sycophants no?

^A disappointing and somewhat foolish diatribe from an otherwise intelligent man. Perhaps an understandable bitterness stemming from his recent experiences.

^Yes but those same scientists who told us about the natural cycles of warming and cooling, the formerly lush Sahara and the glaciers in Ohio are the same ones telling us that the burning of fossil fuels by man is the primary driver of climate change. Does it make sense that scientists would disregard all the previous work on natural cycles when looking at this issue? I would argue no. It's an odd sort of dichotomy that you are proposing there.

They are khat chewing, profiteers, period. They certainly are all that but if their activites deter or at least give pause to illegal trawlers and waste dumpers - they've done some good. That is the point the poster is trying to make.

As far as my knowledge of the Diin is concerned (Ofcoz I might be wrong), that man's hand and leg would be cut in opposite and then sentenced to death. What you wrote constitute two major crimes, one is rape (Which comes under the category of fasad fil-ard) and Murder for killing the 8 year old girl. Rape is different from Zina (consented sex of both indulgent and which is outside marriage ) and carries greater punishment. The point she's making is that something is wrong with the selective application of these punishments in the Islamic world that points to deeper problems. Just focus on the bigger picture.

Would that make a difference to you - Serenity and thePoint and Roobleh. Gosh. I don't think someone who doesn't want to listen can possibly comprehend what I am saying. A married rapist being stoned would not be a travesty of justice such as the case here of an adoloscent child who was raped getting stoned. Regardless - you need to have certain conditions in order to apply hudood laws which I talked about above. See that post.
-
I am against a travesty of justice because it doesn't do the community(both Somali and the wider ummah) any good not to mention the victim involved. I support hudood where there is a proper administration, knowledgeable and competent jurists who follow the appropriate procedure and an informed populace. I don't support this ----> Amnesty: Somali rape victim, 13, stoned to death MOGADISHU, Somalia – A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group said. Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow to death Oct. 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo, Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses. The Islamic militia in charge of Kismayo had accused her of adultery after she reported that three men had raped her, the rights group said. Initial local media reports said Duhulow was 23, but her father told Amnesty International she was 13. Some of the Somali journalists who first reported the killing later told Amnesty International that they had reported she was 23 based upon her physical appearance. Calls to Somali government officials and the local administration in Kismayo rang unanswered Saturday. "This child suffered a horrendous death at the behest of the armed opposition groups who currently control Kismayo," David Copeman, Amnesty International's Somalia campaigner, said in a statement Friday. Somalia is among the world's most violent and impoverished countries. The nation of some 8 million people has not had a functioning government since warlords overthrew a dictator in 1991 then turned on each other. A quarter of Somali children die before age 5; nearly every public institution has collapsed. Fighting is a daily occurrence, with violent deaths reported nearly every day. Islamic militants with ties to al-Qaida have been battling the government and its Ethiopian allies since their combined forces pushed the Islamists from the capital in December 2006. Within weeks of being driven out, the Islamists launched an insurgency that has killed thousands of civilians. In recent months, the militants appear to be gaining strength. The group has taken over the port of Kismayo, Somalia's third-largest city, and dismantled pro-government roadblocks. They also effectively closed the Mogadishu airport by threatening to attack any plane using it.

^I think the lovely memories comment piqued Lily's interest in having a go at an egging

^He's where they all seem to be - nowhere to be found. Behold - The Immaculate Fornication.

^400? Ok you must be fantasizing! If he sweeps east coast minus Georgia and takes Colorado and Nevada will be impressive. Yeah - but this discrimination is different - it's sanctioned by God - can't really argue with that line of thinking.
-
^And that is better for my dignity than getting egged? Surely you jest. Roobleh - we're a fundamentalist ruled household - the head honchos have long ago determined not to participate in a pagan inspired ritual. And since they're not cleaning up the eggy mess - works out good for them.
